Houston is making changes to the roster coming out of the bye week, adding a running back while moving on from two players.
The Houston Texans are making multiple roster moves, releasing defensive tackle Jaden Crumedy and running back Deuce Vaughn while signing rookie running back Josh Pitsenberger to the practice squad.
The moves give Houston another promising option in the backfield while creating an opening along the defensive line after the recent signing of Naquan Jones. With the second half of the regular season underway, the Texans are continuing to evaluate their roster and make adjustments as they prepare for the remainder of their schedule.
Pitsenberger is an undrafted rookie out of Yale who originally signed with Houston in May. The 24-year-old running back entered the league after a productive collegiate career, earning an opportunity with the Texans as part of their undrafted free-agent class.
Standing at 6-foot and 215 pounds, Pitsenberger was a two-time first-team All-Ivy League selection during his time at Yale. His collegiate production helped him earn an opportunity to compete at the professional level despite going undrafted in a talented running back class.
However, his initial opportunity with Houston was interrupted by an injury. The Texans placed Pitsenberger on injured reserve in August before he was waived with an injury settlement later that month.
Now, he gets another opportunity in the NFL with the same organization that initially gave him his first opportunity. His addition gives Houston additional depth at running back as the team continues working through options at the position.
The move also comes with Vaughn's departure. The Texans are releasing the veteran running back from their practice squad, ending his latest opportunity with the organization.
Vaughn originally entered the league as a sixth-round pick by the Dallas Cowboys in 2023 after an impressive collegiate career at Kansas State. Known for his quickness and ability to make defenders miss in space, he brought experience to Houston's running back room.
The Texans signed Vaughn to their practice squad in October, giving him another opportunity to continue his professiona career. However, the team has now decided to move in a different direction by bringing in Pitsenberger.
Houston is also releasing Crumedy, creating another change along the defensive line. The defensive tackle joined the Texans in September after spending time with the Green Bay Packers' practice squad and his first two seasons with the Carolina Panthers.
Crumedy entered the league as a sixth-round selection by the Panthers in 2024 out of Mississippi State.
None of the three moves are a major shakeup, but they give the Texans an opportunity to adjust their practice squad and explore different options as they look to turn their season around. Pitsenberger will now get another chance to establish himself in the NFL after his first opportunity was cut short by injury.
