Reuniting C.J. Stroud with his former Buckeye target could ignite Houston’s offense as trade talks heat up for the former fourth overall pick to join the Texans.
The Houston Texans could be making a major move to help their struggling offense, and it would reunite C.J. Stroud with one of his former teammates from Ohio State.
The Arizona Cardinals are finalizing a trade involving wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., with his next destination still unknown. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Texans are among the teams that have held trade discussions with Arizona, putting Houston firmly in the conversation to land the former fourth overall pick.
Harrison's potential arrival would give the Texans another talented weapon for Stroud while reuniting two players who already have a history of success together.
The pair spent two seasons together at Ohio State, where they developed chemistry as part of one of college football's most dangerous offenses. During the 2022 season, Stroud threw for 3,688 yards and 41 touchdowns, while Harrison emerged as a premier receiving threat with 1,263 yards and 14 touchdowns. Their experience playing together could give Houston an advantage in getting Harrison comfortable in a new offense.
The Texans have a clear reason to explore this possibility. Nico Collins remains the centerpiece of their receiving corps, but finding consistent production behind him has been a challenge. With Jayden Higgins sidelined by a season-ending injury, adding another proven talent would give Stroud more options and make life more difficult for opposing defenses.
Harrison entered the NFL with enormous expectations after being selected fourth overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. He recorded 885 receiving yards and eight touchdowns as a rookie before finishing the 2025 campaign with 608 yards and four scores in 12 games. His production has dropped significantly this season, with five catches for 85 yards and one touchdown through four games.
Still, the 24-year-old has the physical tools and pedigree to become a difference-maker in the right situation. A change of scenery and a reunion with a familiar quarterback could help him rediscover the form that made him one of the most highly regarded prospects in his draft class.
Of course, acquiring Harrison would require Houston to part with valuable draft capital, and the Texans would need to determine whether the potential payoff justifies the investment. Reports indicate that a second-round pick has been discussed, although the final compensation remains uncertain.
With Harrison reportedly headed elsewhere and Houston confirmed to have explored a deal, the Texans are a team worth watching closely. Bringing him to Houston would give Stroud a familiar target and potentially transform the team's offensive ceiling.
The destination has yet to be revealed, but the Texans have a compelling case to make Harrison's next stop Houston.
