Updates on Texans QB C.J. Stroud, who went to the locker room in today’s game against the Broncos after a hard hit.

In the midst of a pivotal AFC matchup against the Denver Broncos, the Houston Texans are suddenly facing some adversity midway through the first half. Quarterback C.J. Stroud, who has been the heartbeat of this Texans offense all season, went down after taking a hit while sliding to the turf in the second quarter.

On a scramble after the pocket collapsed, Stroud tucked the ball and darted upfield before beginning his slide just short of the first down marker. As he went feet first, a Broncos defender appeared to make contact high, catching Stroud late as he was going down. The hit immediately drew reactions from both sidelines, and Stroud stayed on the field momentarily while trainers rushed out to check on him.

The Texans sideline then emptied as players gathered around their quarterback, creating a brief hush across NRG Stadium. After a few moments, Stroud was able to get to his feet and make his way to the locker room under his own power, but the scene certainly left the crowd uneasy.

With Stroud being evaluated, backup quarterback Davis Mills took over under cente and now leads an offense that’s looking to maintain rhythm and energy against a Broncos defense that has tightened up after an early Houston touchdown.

At halftime, the Texans announced that Stroud was officially out for the remainder of Sunday’s game with a concussion.

Stroud’s health will be one of the biggest storylines to watch over the next week, as the Texans continue their push for a much-needed win to stay in the AFC playoff picture.
