Brown's status will be one to monitor closely ahead of Sunday’s AFC South matchup.
The Houston Texans received a potentially encouraging development on the injury front Thursday and Friday as offensive tackle Trent Brown returned to practice as a limited participant.
Brown was listed with knee and wrist injuries and did not participate in Wednesday’s practice. His limited participation Thursday and Friday is a step in the right direction, but it does not necessarily guarantee that he will be available when the Texans travel to face the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.
Brown's status is worth watching closely because of the current state of Houston's offensive line. The unit has struggled to consistently protect C.J. Stroud and establish a reliable rushing attack through the first two weeks of the season, creating additional pressure on an offense that has already had difficulty finishing drives and finding the endzone.
The Texans cannot afford to have more uncertainty up front entering a divisional matchup.
Houston's offensive struggles were especially evident in its Week 2 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Despite Stroud throwing for 353 yards, the Texans were unable to turn that production into touchdowns and ultimately finished with just six points. The offense also struggled to generate much on the ground, leaving the passing game to carry much of the workload.
An offensive line that can keep Stroud clean and create holes in the run game will be critical against Indianapolis.
If Brown is able to return to the field Sunday, his availability could provide some much-needed stability for a group that has already faced its share of challenges. If he cannot go, his presence will be difficult to replace, and Houston could be forced to make another adjustment at a position where continuity is particularly valuable.
There is still time for Brown to make further progress before Sunday. His recent practice status is certainly encouraging, but the Texans will have to evaluate how his knee and wrist respond as game day inches closer.
With the Texans searching for their first win of the season, his availability will be one of the most important developments to monitor heading into Sunday.
Indianapolis will look to capitalize on any weakness up front, putting added importance on Houston's ability to protect Stroud and stay ahead of the chains. With little margin for error considering their start to the 2026 season, the Texans will need every advantage they can get as they look to avoid falling further behind in the AFC South.
