The captain isn't happy with how the unit has performed, especially after the work Houston has put in.

Despite the talent on the roster and on the defensive side of the football in particular, the Houston Texans have struggled to find the same consistency that made the unit a strength in previous seasons.

For All-Pro Will Anderson Jr., the disappointing performances are something he takes personally.

During an interview with Big Sarge Media, Anderson was asked how personally he takes the way the defense has played, given his competitive nature and leadership role on the team. His response made it clear that the results have not sat well with him.

"Very personal. Very personal because I know the guys that we have on this defense. I know the players that we have. I know the competitors that we have," Anderson said.

Anderson's comments reflect the frustration of a defense that entered the season with high expectations but has struggled to consistently deliver on the field. Houston has invested heavily in their defensive personnel, and the talent on the roster has made the unit's disappointing performances even more frustrating.

For Anderson, the issue is not a lack of effort during the week. He emphasized how hard his teammates work in practice and how seriously they approach their preparation ahead of each game.

"But it just goes back. I know how much hard work we put in. We're not around here slouching around. We're not out here just getting through practice. Man, we're almost practicing like it's a game," Anderson said.

That distinction is important for a defense trying to find answers. If the players believe they are preparing the right way, the next step is making sure that preparation translates into better execution when it matters most.

Anderson also believes his teammates share his frustration. Rather than suggesting that the problems fall on a lack of commitment from individual players, he pointed to the competitive nature of the group and the work everyone puts in throughout the week.

The challenge now is turning that frustration into results. Houston can't afford to rely solely on preparation as the season continues, particularly with the team sitting at 2-5 and needing significant improvement to get back into contention.

Anderson has continued to produce individually, recording 7.5 sacks through the Texans' first seven games to lead the NFL. His performance has been one of the bright spots in a season that has not gone according to plan for Houston.

Still, individual production has not been enough to make the defense consistently effective. The Texans need the entire unit to improve, and Anderson's role as a captain puts him in a position to help hold his teammates accountable.

For Houston, the message is straightforward. The defense knows they have not played well enough, and Anderson is taking those struggles personally. Now, the Texans need to turn that frustration into better performances on Sundays.
