The Houston Texans' 2025 season did not go exactly as fans had hoped. The team had won a playoff game in each of the prior two seasons, and it was time to take a step forward and reach the Divisional round. That did not happen, as Houston fell to the New England Patriots on the road. After a win in the AFC Championship Game, the Patriots are heading to Super Bowl 60.
When the Seahawks and Patriots clash in Santa Clara, California on February 8th, some former Texans will also be taking the field. The most notable player is wide receiver Stefon Diggs. Diggs' time in Houston was short-lived as he played about half the season for the Texans in 2024 before suffering a season-ending ACL injury. He was only in Houston on a one-year deal, and he signed with New England in free agency. During his time in Houston he hauled in 47 passes for nearly 500 yards and three touchdowns.
Another former Texan playing in the big game is Josh Jones. He was with Houston during the 2023 season. He was acquired by the Texans via a trade with the Arizona Cardinals. He played in 13 games for the Texans, starting three. He started the final three games of the regular season for Seattle, but has since returned to a reserve role in the postseason.
Cornerback Alex Austin is now on the Patriots. He spent some time with Houston at the start of the 2023 season, but he was eventually released. He was picked up off waivers by New England, where he has fit in nicely. He has spent some time on injured reserve in both 2024 and 2025, but he has carved out a minor role for himself.
Tight end Eric Saubert and running back Cam Akers round things out for the former Texans who are going to be playing in Super Bowl 60. Both players play for Seattle, and both have bounced around quite a bit throughout their careers. Saubert has played for 11 teams, including the Texans in 2023. Akers has played for five teams, including Houston in 2024.
It would be nice if Houston had found a way to make it to Super Bowl 60, but fans will still get to watch some players who were once members of the Texans. No matter the outcome of the big game, a player who used to play for Houston will be getting a Super Bowl ring.
