General Manager Nick Caserio challenges the young receiver's development. Can he overcome competition and prove his worth for a larger role?

The Houston Texans have an interesting group of weapons on the offensive side of the ball. It is a young group for the most part, but the wide receiver room is full of potential. Nico Collins has already cemented himself as a star in the NFL, and it is clear that he is one of quarterback C.J. Stroud's favorite targets in the passing game. Outside of Collins, the wide receivers in Houston are shaping up to be Tank Dell, Jayden Higgins, and Jaylin Noel.

Dell is an interesting player. He missed the entire 2025 season due to a gruesome knee injury he suffered later on in the 2024 season. He is expected to return in 2026 in what will be a contract year for the wideout. He burst onto the scene during his rookie season in 2023, when he was one of the reasons Stroud had one of the best rookie seasons by a quarterback in NFL history.

The top three wideouts in Houston during the 2026 season look to be Collins, Higgins, and Dell. That leaves Noel as the odd man out. He was Houston's third-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft after the organization selected Higgins in the second round. Those three wide receivers being in front of Noel will make it hard for him to see the field, and any other additions could jump in front of him as well.

Noel will also have to worry about Xavier Hutchinson, who played over half of the snaps on the offensive side of the ball in 2025. Noel was only on the field for roughly a quarter of the offensive snaps.

The path forward for Noel may be a little murky right now, but the organization still believes in the young wide receiver. He needs a strong offseason, and if he can make plays in training camp, he will prove he deserves to be on the field more often. His main competition is going to be Hutchinson, but Houston could also opt to prioritize Noel, as Hutchinson will be entering the final year of his rookie deal.

Houston also has a decision to make on pending free-agent wide receiver Christian Kirk, but it seems unlikely he will be brought into the organization. He played well in the playoffs, but he was essentially nonexistent during the regular season. Noel is a player to keep an eye on, as it will be a challenge for him to carve out a role for himself in 2026.
