Former undrafted free agent cornerback Brandon Codrington announced on his Instagram story that he is joining the Houston Texans, posting a photo of the team facility with the caption “new beginnings” and updating his bio to reflect the move.
After signing with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent following the 2024 NFL Draft and impressing during the preseason, Codrington was traded to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick, with Buffalo also receiving a 2026 seventh-round pick. The defensive back spent the past two seasons with the Bills.
Codrington’s role diminished in his sophomore season, both in the secondary and as a return specialist. Despite winning the return man job during training camp, he appeared in just four games before being released and later added back to the practice squad. Codrington recorded 10 punt return attempts for 58 yards, including a long of 15 yards, with four fair catches. He added 14 kickoff returns for 375 yards with a long of 41. The 25-year-old logged 10 defensive snaps during the 2025 season and did not record any statistics on that side of the ball.
During his rookie season in 2024, Codrington recorded nine total tackles (eight solo) and one pass broken up on 70 defensive snaps across 17 games. He returned 27 punts for 313 yards with a long of 29 yards and eight fair catches, along with 11 kickoff returns for 306 yards with a long of 53. Codrington was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team as a return specialist.

He spent four seasons with the Eagles from 2019 to 2023 after opting out of the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Standing 5-foot-9 and 180 pounds, Codrington finished his collegiate career with 91 total tackles (80 solo), 20 stops, nine passes broken up and one forced fumble. He returned 45 punts for 637 yards and 40 kickoffs for 728 yards.
This move gives Codrington a fresh opportunity to showcase his abilities and compete for a roster spot through a strong training camp or by impressing in the preseason. Perhaps a change of scenery is exactly what the young defensive back needed for motivation as he continues to pursue his NFL dreams.
