Should the Texans consider Cayden Green next offseason?

Missouri’s Cayden Green is one of the top offensive linemen in the nation because of his superb athleticism, versatility, and proven development. As a result, he’s a premier prospect for summer scouting in the 2027 NFL Draft and is someone the Houston Texans should be interested in.

Before we dive into Cayden Green, it’s important to remember the intention of summer scouting. It’s not meant to be finalized scouting reports stating the Texans must draft certain prospects. It’s far too early for any of that, as plenty will change with both the players and the team. Instead, it’s supposed to find talented targets who could resurface next offseason.

With this in mind, don’t picture Green as the clear-cut primary option in the 2027 draft, but as an intriguing player to watch during the year.

Green’s athleticism enables him to play multiple positions on the offensive line. He started his career at guard, playing on the left side for his first two seasons. Then, he moved to left tackle and had a promising campaign, allowing two sacks and seven pressures. Green’s excellent movement skills and reliable anchor help him eliminate opposing pass rushers from the field.

This athleticism is also evident as a run blocker. Green has a nasty streak and thrives at moving north to south, paving the way for his running back. He has a high IQ and understands how to remove defenders.

Although Green’s not a perfect prospect, he dramatically improved throughout 2026. At first, he was the weak link in Missouri’s offensive line, conceding one sack and two pressures against Central Arkansas. After that, his technique steadily improved, and he became comfortable. This was exemplified in the final four weeks of the year, when Green only yielded one pressure. This improvement should give the Texans hope, as even if he doesn’t start his rookie season, he can grow into a franchise cornerstone.

Even if the Texans don’t add Cayden Green, the offensive line should be a priority next year. It’s no secret that CJ Stroud has struggled in 2024 and 2025, largely due to the constant pressure he’s faced. Additionally, the rushing attack has been subpar, ranking 28th in the NFL, averaging just 3.9 yards per carry, stemming from the trenches. As a result, addressing both of these needs would be wise and help reinvigorate a floundering offense.

It’s too early to say anything definitive, but Cayden Green is an uber-talented player whom the Texans could target next April. His stellar athleticism, elite versatility, and vast improvement make him an intriguing option that will enter first-round conversations with another sound season.
