After protecting Joe Burrow in Cincinnati, lineman Cordell Volson sees familiar elite traits in Tennessee’s young signal-caller as the Titans assemble a high-powered offensive trio.

It's not every day that you get compared to an elite quarterback like Joe Burrow.

That was the case for Tennessee Titans quarterback Cam Ward on Tuesday.

We haven't heard much from Titans right guard Cordell Volson this offseason. He joined the team in free agency after four years with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Volson is in the midst of a battle for the starting right guard position with the Titans. He is competing with Fernando Carmona and Jackson Slater. He is the frontrunner at the moment, considering he has the most NFL experience.

Volson has played in 50 games with 48 starts in his career. He did suffer a season-ending shoulder injury in his final year in Cincinnati, but is looking for a new start in Tennessee.

Throughout his four years with the Bengals, Volson got to play alongside Burrow, Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.

Among that trio, all three of them made the Pro Bowl, even though Burrow was out for most of the season with a turf toe injury.

The Titans have a budding trio on offense of their own, with Ward, Wan'Dale Robinson and Carnell Tate. Volson saw a lot of similarities between the Titans and Bengals in that regard at Tuesday's press conference.

Ward being compared to Burrow is definitely a plus.

"Obviously, you know, in Cincinnati with Joe and Ja'Marr and Tee, their chemistry, you know, so they obviously had some of that figured out, but, you know, I see some of our receivers and see the way Cam makes some throws, and I know we can do some of those things as well," Volson said.

If the Titans can get a similar production out of Ward that the Bengals have with Burrow, most fans would probably be happy, minus the injuries, of course.

Burrow was drafted by the Bengals out of LSU in 2020. He played in 10 games before suffering an injury. He still put up solid stats, throwing for 2,688 passing yards, 13 touchdowns and five interceptions.

The Bengals then gave Burrow his favorite college receiver in Chase, and he had a breakout year in 2021. Burrow finished with 4,611 passing yards, 34 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

He made his first Pro Bowl in 2022 after another solid season but then had a setback in 2023 and played in just 10 games again.

The Bengals quarterback put together another masterful season in 2024, throwing for 4,918 passing yards, 43 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

The Titans are hoping for a similar ascendency from Ward in year two. They've given him Brian Daboll as offensive coordinator, who is known for his work with young quarterbacks. The receiver room is much improved compared to last year, with Robinson and Tate joining the team.

Tennessee is just following the same blueprint the Bengals did. The Titans have the young quarterback and have now given him more weapons in the hopes in turns into a breakout year.
