Beyond raw talent, Robert Saleh highlights Cam Ward's work ethic and ability to connect with everyone, predicting his success.
It's never easy for a young quarterback to have multiple head coaches in his first two seasons in the NFL.
That's going to be the case for Tennessee Titans quarterback Cam Ward.
The rookie started with Brian Callahan before he was fired after losing to the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 6. Then, he was coached by interim head coach Mike McCoy the rest of the 2025 season.
Now, he'll have another head coach in Robert Saleh.
Even with two different head coaches last season, Ward still put up some impressive numbers in the second half of the year. From Weeks 10-18, Ward threw for 1,409 passing yards, 10 touchdowns and one interception.
He actually led the league with the best touchdown-to-interception ratio in the second half of the season.
It's clear that Ward has the arm talent, but Saleh shared something else beyond his athletic abilities that he thinks will help the young quarterback flourish.
Saleh can't discuss football with Ward due to NFL rules, but he has been able to observe him and has noted that Ward is the kind of person who knows everyone's names at the facility and has a really strong work ethic.
The head coach stated that he doesn't believe Ward can fail because of that, per Jim Wyatt of TennesseeTitans.com.
"I try to observe people from afar, and Cam is there every day," Saleh said. "Obviously, we can't talk ball with him (because of NFL rules), but I can watch him interact with the people in the building. I think it is very impressive for a young man to walk through the building and know everybody by name, from the janitors to the chefs to the trainers, and he addresses them by name. He is a really, really good man. I just think his head is on the right way, he has the right work ethic. I just don't see him failing."
As a whole, Ward threw for 3,169 passing yards, 15 touchdowns and seven interceptions. There's still a lot of room to grow, but he's doing everything off the field that he needs to.
The Titans have surrounded him with more talent this offseason, with the offensive additions of Wan'Dale Robinson, Austin Schlottman, Cordell Volson, Daniel Bellinger and others.
Tony Pollard is back to be the lead running back for the Titans, with Calvin Ridley returning from his season-ending fibula injury.
Everything will come down to how these new additions perform on the field, but it's a good feeling knowing that Ward is a leader when the lights are off, too.
