After devastating injuries sidelined Fernando Carmona and Jackson Slater, Robert Saleh evaluates his depth options as the Titans scramble to stabilize their front five against Baltimore.
The Tennessee Titans had more than just one loss on Sunday in the 12-7 defeat to the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium.
The game got off to a bad start for the Titans.
Chimere Dike fumbled the ball to the Giants on the opening kickoff, ahead of what should've been the Titans' opening drive. The Titans offense had to wait for the defense to stop the Giants before taking the field for the first time.
Within the first few plays, the Titans suffered a serious injury to a key starter. Right guard Fernando Carmona went down with an ankle injury. His teammates' reactions told us everything we needed to know.
The injury didn't look good.
Jackson Slater came off the bench and replaced Carmona. It was a tough task for Slater, who has never started an NFL game for the Titans since they picked him in the late rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft from Sacramento State.
Still, the Titans' offensive line held its own. They didn't allow a single sack despite being without a starter.
The injuries weren't done yet for the Titans.
After the game, it was revealed that Slater had suffered a serious foot injury and played through it. It wasn't long before both Carmona and Slater headed to the injured reserve.
This means that any depth at right guard is going to be out for the next four games at least.
Titans head coach Robert Saleh fielded media questions on Friday. He was asked about the state of the right guard spot for the Titans entering Sunday's game against the Baltimore Ravens.
He felt good about where the position was but didn't name who the starter would be against the Baltimore Ravens just yet.
"Yeah, we're comfortable with the direction we're going," Saleh said. "Feel good about the way they've all worked."
The Titans had to move quickly after losing both Carmona and Slater. They elevated offensive guard Garrett Dellinger from the practice squad. The Titans already had recent addition Atonio Mavi on the roster.
It looks like the starting right guard for Week 4 will be either Mafi or Dellinger. Mafi has played for the New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts, and Las Vegas Raiders. He's played in 23 games with seven starts.
Dellinger spent time with the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns before he joined the Titans last year. He was claimed off waivers by the Browns and went to the Titans' practice squad.
He was elevated to the active roster in September of last year.
With the job offensive line coach Carmen Bricillo has done, the Titans will put their best foot forward. The Titans have only allowed one sack so far.
Bricillo will make sure to find the player who gives them the best chance at winning on Sunday.
The Titans will have a new starting right guard on Sunday as they take on the Ravens at noon CT.
