A persistent void at wide receiver, and a struggling left tackle, have long plagued the Titans' offense, leading to questionable personnel decisions and a desperate search for playmakers.
It's been tough to be a Tennessee Titans fan since the days that Mike Vrabel was in charge.
The Titans moved on from Vrabel after the 2023 season, and he led the New England Patriots to the Super Bowl last season. The franchise has gone 6-28 since the decision to fire the former head coach.
Even during Vrabel's tenure, the team had inconsistencies at several positions. After three-time Pro Bowl left tackle Taylor Lewan retired, the team has struggled to find its franchise player at the position.
Tennessee signed Dan Moore Jr. to try to stop the bleeding, but he's had a shaky start to his tenure with the franchise.
Left tackle has been a problem for a few years now, but inconsistent play at another position has plagued the team for even longer.
That position is none other than wide receiver.
Last season was about as bad as it could get. The team's leading receiver was tight end Chig Okonkwo (560). Okonkwo left the team in free agency and is now with the Washington Commanders.
The former Titans tight end revealed just how bad things were offensively under former head coach Brian Callahan. Okonkwo shared how excited he was for the chance to run real routes on the Commanders' offense.
Going back to the 2010s, the Titans had 1,000-yard seasons from Nate Washington (2011), Kendall Wright (2013), Delanie Walker (2015) and A.J. Brown (2019). In the last six years, the Titans have had Brown (2020), De'Andre Hopkins (2023), and Calvin Ridley (2024) as their receivers to finish with over 1,000 yards in a season.
The team has even decided not to keep quality receiving talent over the years. Undrafted free agent Nick Westbrook-Ikhine was one of the more recent receivers the team decided not to keep.
The Indiana product was a consistent option for the Titans at receiver in his three years with the franchise, but the team decided to let him go instead of giving him an extension after the 2024 season.
Then, there was the decision to trade De'Andre Hopkins after he had over 1,000 receiving yards in 2023.
Every Titans fan knows just how much the Brown trade set this franchise back. Former General Manager Jon Robinson traded Brown to the Philadelphia Eagles for the No. 18 pick and a third-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
With that pick, the Titans drafted Treylon Burks out of Arkansas. Burks was never able to play a full season with the Titans due to injury and joined the Washington Commanders last season.
This franchise has had some great running backs over the years, with Eddie George, Chris Johnson and Derrick Henry leading the way. Wide receiver has been a bit of an enigma for the organization, as it seems that the Titans can't get the position right.
Luckily, current GM Mike Borgonzi saw that this team desperately needed another starting-caliber receiver and brought in Wan'Dale Robinson from the New York Giants.
Robinson is going to be the Titans' starting slot receiver in 2026 and is in a much better situation than he was with the Giants. Regardless, he finished with 1,014 receiving yards for the Giants in 2025 despite having multiple starting quarterbacks.
Russell Wilson, Jaxson Dart and Jameis Winston all threw Robinson the ball at different points during the 2025 campaign.
Tennessee also decided to keep Ridley around on a restructured deal, which should draw less attention to Robinson.
Receiver has been a long-time issue for this franchise, and we'll see if Borgonzi's moves were enough to finally bring some consistent play there in 2026.
