Burke Nihill’s apology rings hollow as systemic dysfunction, front-office turnover, and a winless start under Robert Saleh leave a once-proud franchise spiraling toward rock bottom without a lifeline.
The Tennessee Titans have been a dumpster fire of a franchise ever since they moved on from Mike Vrabel.
Even before then, you could tell that things were starting to go bad. The Titans made the playoffs from 2019-2021.
It started with an AFC Championship run, then the team lost in the Wild Card Round to the Baltimore Ravens and was embarrassed by Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals as the No. 1 seed in 2021.
In 2022, the Titans controlled their destiny. They led the AFC South at 7-3 after a road win over the Green Bay Packers. They then proceeded to lose seven straight games and miss the playoffs altogether.
The Titans weren't close to making the playoffs in the 2023 season. The one bright spot was eliminating the Jacksonville Jaguars from playoff contention in the regular-season finale.
The Brian Callahan era was even worse. He won three games in his first year and then was fired halfway through last season. The Titans went 6-28 in 2024-25.
There was plenty of hope and optimism about Robert Saleh's tenure. At the moment, the Titans are 0-5 and have struggled in what was thought to be a favorable last-place schedule.
Players like Jeffery Simmons are wasting their careers on this team. He's had to find creative ways to motivate his teammates throughout this brutal stretch.
The dysfunction isn't just the players on the field. It also has to do with the front office. Since firing Jon Robinson, the front office has seen plenty of turnover.
The Titans have fired multiple people within the organization. Ran Carthon replaced Robinson and was fired. Then, the Titans let go of Vrabel and hired Callahan. The Titans promoted Chad Brinker and hired Mike Borgonzi as General Manager.
Borgonzi then fired Callahan and hired Saleh. Brinker eventually resigned after the 2026 NFL Draft.
On Friday, Titans CEO Burke Nihill tried to apologize to the fanbase. He sent an email to season ticket holders to try to console fans for putting up with all this nonsense.
It was very half-hearted, and at the end of the day, it didn't fix anything that's currently plaguing the franchise.
The only thing that's going to fix things around here is winning. It may be simple, but it's true. Winning fixes a lot of problems.
The Titans haven't had any semblance of stability on the field, with their coaching staff or even in the front office, and it's shown in these last few years.
This franchise has not been able to put a winning product on the field. An apology to the fanbase doesn't change anything.
In fact, it shows just how bad things have become.
The Titans went from being a yearly playoff contender to being a laughingstock. More opposing fans than Titans fans regularly show up at Nissan Stadium, and for good reason. This franchise has fallen back because of decisions like this.
Only one thing is going to change things for this franchise. Winning football games is the solution.
Unfortunately, that's been a problem for the Titans lately. The lack of front-office stability isn't helping.
An apology from Nihill isn't going to cut it. This team needs to start winning games again.
