Tennessee swaps linebackers as training camp intensifies, signing a former Commanders draft pick to the active roster while parting ways with an undrafted free agent.
The Tennessee Titans are constantly moving parts throughout training camp, and Thursday was no different.
Before training camp kicked off on Thursday, the Titans made a roster move involving one of their undrafted free agents.
The Titans already waived one of their UDFAs from this offseason recently. The Titans signed former Arkansas defensive back Hudson Clark and waived cornerback Jeadyn Lukus.
Lukus played college football at Clemson and went undrafted in April.
Clark was later released to make room for defensive back Derrick Canteen and defensive linemen Khalen Saunders and Laki Tasi.
Per AtoZ Sports' Easton Freeze, the Titans made a transaction involving UDFA linebacker Shad Banks Jr. He was waived to make room for the signing of linebacker Dominique Hampton.
Banks played college football at UTSA for his final season of eligibility, but he started his career at TCU.
When Banks was starting to break into TCU's starting lineup, he suffered a serious injury in 2024 and only played in four games. He then transferred to UTSA and had a breakout season with 94 total tackles, 7.5 TFLs, two sacks, and three interceptions.
Hampton is similar to James Williams in that he came into the NFL as a safety but converted to linebacker. The Washington Commanders drafted him in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
He played college football at Washington for five years. Like Banks, he wasn't a starter at first but eventually worked his way into a permanent role.
He had a breakout season in 2025 for the Huskies, recording 109 total tackles and two interceptions.
Hampton played in one game for the Commanders in 2024 after not being on the active roster. The Commanders released him in August 2025; the Bears picked him up in November due to linebacker injuries and placed him on their practice squad.
Hampton was released by the Bears last year on Dec. 1 but was re-signed to the practice squad on Dec. 16.
One linebacker leaves, and another enters for the Titans.
Hampton will need to compete for a spot in a linebacker room that has Cody Barton, Mohamoud Diabate, Cedric Gray, Anthony Hill Jr., Williams, Dorian Mausi, Sean Brown and Mani Powell.
He'll be a long shot to make this Titans roster, but we've had UDFAs defy the odds before with this team. Look at the receiver room, which has former UDFAs Mason Kinsey and Bryce Oliver.
