Tennessee adds West Virginia standout Reid Carrico to a crowded defensive rotation as Milo Eifler’s injury opens a critical window for the former Buckeyes special teams contributor.
The Tennessee Titans have only had former undrafted free agent linebacker Milo Eifler on the roster for a short time, and he is now on the injured reserve.
Eifler was one of the signings the Titans made after placing Nazeeh Johnson on the IR with an ankle injury and releasing tight end Matt Lauter. The Titans signed Eifler and edge rusher Tanoh Kpassagnon.
Eifler played college football at Washington and Illinois. He spent time with the New York Jets, Miami Dolphins, Washington Commanders, Atlanta Falcons, Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco 49ers before landing with the Titans.
He sustained the injury on Sunday night against the Seahawks. The timing of the injury is unfortunate for Eifler, as he hasn't been able to stay with an NFL team for very long.
Titans insider Jim Wyatt shared Monday that Eifler was heading to the IR with an undisclosed injury, and that the Titans were signing a player to replace him.
That player is linebacker Reid Carrico. Carrico is another former undrafted free agent who has landed with the Titans.
Carrico started his college football career at Ohio State in 2021. He played in four games and redshirted as a true freshman.
He then saw the field in a limited capacity, appearing mostly on special teams for the Buckeyes in 2022 and 2023.
Carrico then decided it was time to transfer to a new program and joined the West Virginia Mountaineers in 2024. He played in 24 games over the two years he spent with the program.
He wasn't a starter but was a valuable addition to the linebacker rotation. He recorded 123 total tackles, 9.5 TFLs, 4.5 sacks and one forced fumble from his time at West Virginia.
After a breakout season with West Virginia in 2025, Carrico wasn't selected in the 2026 NFL Draft. He signed with the Cleveland Browns as a UDFA in May and was released on Aug. 7.
The linebacker room is crowded at the Titans.
Carrico will have the tough task of finding a spot among Cedric Gray, Cody Barton, Mohamoud Diabate, Mani Powell, Anthony Hill Jr., James Williams Sr., Dominique Hampton and Dorian Mausi.
The good news for Carrico is that he'll have plenty of time to practice with the team this week. The Titans return to the practice field on Tuesday ahead of the preseason finale with the Chicago Bears on Aug. 29.
Carrico has found a landing spot with his second NFL team for now.
