Safety alarms in Nashville eased as veteran safety Amani Hooker passed his physical, while first-round tackle J.C. Latham remains day-to-day with a minor pectoral strain.

The Tennessee Titans are finally beginning training camp after not having any team activities since minicamp ended back in June.

There was a bit of an injury scare earlier this week for two key starters. Amani Hooker and J.C. Latham were placed on the PUP list, which sounded alarms across Nashville.

Hooker is a veteran in the secondary and will have new players to mentor as he prepares for his eighth NFL season. Alontae Taylor and Cor'Dale Flott are veterans, too, but this will be their first season with the Titans.

Then, there are second-year players Marcus Harris, Micah Robinson, and Kevin Winston Jr., all returning as well.

After allowing the seventh-most passing yards per game in 2025, the Titans will need veterans like Hooker to anchor the secondary this year.

Luckily, those concerns weren't as warranted for either player. The good thing about being put on the PUP list in training camp is that they can be removed from it any time between now and the preseason.

It was reported that Hooker and Latham were dealing with minor injuries and shouldn't be out for long.

Titans insider Jim Wyatt had more good news from the press conference of General Manager Mike Borgonzi on Tuesday. Borgonzi announced that Hooker was coming off the PUP list.

This means that Hooker was healthy enough to pass his physical and will be able to practice with the team.

Latham is still on the PUP list, and Borgonzi revealed that he is listed as day-to-day with a pectoral injury.

"In terms of the roster, you know, probably just going to have one guy in PUP and that's J.C. Latham," Borgonzi said. "Hooker will come off of PUP today. With J.C., you know, he was just dealing with the pec strain that he had at the end of OTA's last year, but he's been here the whole time during the summer. You know, he's probably day-to-day right now in terms of when he's going to return, but he's worked really hard. He looks great. So, we're ready to roll."

Initially, there was concern that Borgonzi had said Latham had injured his pectoral last year, but Paul Kuharsky confirmed that the GM misspoke. Latham sustained the injury at OTAs a few months ago.

We know how bad the Titans' offensive line has been in recent years, as not even revered offensive line coach Bill Callahan could fix the issues. The Titans allowed the sixth-most sacks in 2024 and 2025, so having a starter like Latham return healthy is of the utmost importance.

Peter Skoronski and Dan Moore Jr. are the only other returning starters that the Titans have on the offensive line. Lloyd Cushenberry and Kevin Zeitler are no longer with the team, as the Titans will have a new center and right guard between the trenches this year.

Austin Schlottmann and Pat Coogan are competing for the starting center job, with Cordell Volson, Jackson Slater and Fernando Carmona all battling for right guard.

The Titans have dodged the injury bug so far. Hopefully, Latham will be back in action sooner rather than later.
