Following a historically bad 0-5 start, Robert Saleh addresses the growing pressure to sideline his struggling quarterback while the franchise spirals toward a potential lost season.
Tennessee Titans quarterback Cam Ward has had a few awful performances so far this year.
Sunday's outing may have been the worst of them all. The Titans lost 26-3 to the Houston Texans at Nissan Stadium, falling to 0-5. It's the first time that the Titans have started a season 0-5 since 2009, when Jeff Fisher was still the head coach.
Somehow, Fisher and the Titans finished that season 8-8. This Titans team doesn't have much hope.
Ward and the offense managed only three points against the Texans' defense. Ward finished with 170 passing yards and one interception in the loss. He completed 23 of 36 passes.
His QBR was 63.4, which is the lowest it's been this year.
Ward was sacked twice and while trying to avoid pressure from Danielle Hunter, he was hit and threw his one interception of the game.
Ward's stat line for the year is now 896 passing yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions. This is not the start many Titans fans were hoping for from their quarterback.
He looks like a much different quarterback than the one we saw at the end of last season. After another disappointing loss, the question was asked about Ward again.
Will the Titans bench him? This isn't the first time this season that Robert Saleh has been asked about his quarterback.
The head coach was asked this after the 12-7 loss to the New York Giants. Saleh stood firm that Ward was still the starting quarterback.
He kept that same attitude about it on Sunday after the Texans loss.
"No, not with Cam," Saleh said.
He expressed that he is going to give Ward every opportunity to have success and not give up on him.
"Cam's our starting quarterback," Saleh said. "We're going to give him every opportunity to be successful this year, and we're going to continue working with him and trying to help him get better."
Whether the Titans bench Ward or not, the road will get tougher from here. They take on the Indianapolis Colts and Cleveland Browns to close out October. Their first two November games are against the Cincinnati Bengals and Jacksonville Jaguars.
No matter how bad things get, the Titans are deciding to ride things out with Ward.
Even after this rough 0-5 start, the Titans are committed to Ward. He is now 3-19 as the Titans' starting quarterback.
No matter how bad things get, the starting quarterback isn't changing unless an injury forces the team to put Mitchell Trubisky in.
We'll see if this team can rebound in Week 6 against the Colts on the road. Kickoff is set for noon CT on Fox.
