Alec Lewis of The Athletic revealed on The Alec Lewis Show on Monday that there were some people internally that “pushed” for the Vikings to bring back quarterback Sam Darnold. He also mentioned that there was “skepticism” at the time due to J.J. McCarthy’s readiness to be a starter.

Lewis continued, “there’s no doubt just in conversation that there were questions internally about the readiness which is why the Vikings tried to bring back Daniel Jones, and eventually why the Aaron Rodgers conversation existed. It was because the Vikings knew they needed serious insurance at the QB position.”
