Can the Vikings thrive without the JJ McCarthy drama?
The JJ McCarthy era in Minnesota is over, and hopefully the drama surrounding the situation is also. After trading him to the Giants, the Vikings can hopefully breathe a sigh of relief. Coming into the season much of the talk was regarding the quarterback battle. The Vikings front office signaled that it was time to move on from the former first round pick when they brought in Kyler Murray. Thus far this season that conversation still was a distraction. With McCarthy off to New York for a fresh start, hopefully the Vikings can turn the page themselves.

Justin Jefferson leaves the game with an ankle injury
The Vikings were struck with some bad luck on Sunday when they lost their superstar wide receiver Justin Jefferson to an ankle injury. The injury came in the second quarter on a reception. There will likely be a MRI in Jefferson’s future, but reports were that the star receiver tried to tough it out to return to the field but ultimately was unable to. Hopefully the Vikings will receive some positive news on Monday about Jefferson’s injury.

Should the Vikings look to trade McCarthy?
We are only two weeks into the NFL season and injuries are already beginning to arise. With the report that Giants’ quarterback Jaxson Dart potentially missing the rest of the season with a knee injury, they could very well be on the hunt for a replacement. Enter the Minnesota Vikings. It is no secret that the Vikings have been interested in trading JJ McCarthy, but now that there may be a potential suitor, should they consider dealing him? The Vikings haven’t quite been the model of health thus far themselves. As they have already witnessed, you never know when McCarthy’s number might be called.

It wasn’t pretty but the Vikings got the win
The final score wouldn’t show it, but the Minnesota Vikings got themselves a victory that they wouldn’t have gotten last season. In a game where the offense was clearly not there, the Vikings’ defense showed that it can help keep them in the game. The Bears, after scoring a whopping 59 points in week one, managed just three against Minnesota. The Vikings made life difficult all day for Chicago. Unfortunately, Caleb Williams was forced to exit the game with an injury, and that was the end for the Bears.

Kyler Murray likely out week 2
The Minnesota Vikings’ early 2026 season has already been a roller coaster. The new quarterback that everyone expected would begin the season as the starter went out early with a concussion. But it was backup QB Carson Wentz that stole the show. Ian Rapoport appeared on The Pat McAfee Show and gave an update on Murray’s health. Rapoport said that his return for week two was not in the cards. He added, however, that Murray is expected to start again when healthy.

Vikings and Carson Wentz make huge statement
Sunday’s game didn’t go quite as expected, but it still ended in a huge victory over the Packers. All eyes were on new quarterback Kyler Murray, but after suffering a concussion, it was Carson Wentz that helped lead the Vikings to victory. Wentz showed exactly why he was named QB2 over JJ McCarthy. Things didn’t look great to start, as Green Bay jumped out to an early lead. But thanks to 3 touchdown passes by Wentz, as well as some athletic plays by Justin Jefferson, Minnesota begins the season 1-0.

The Vikings need to get off to a good start
It is one of the biggest cliches in sports: it is important to get off to a good start. But for the Minnesota Vikings, that might be crucial. With all of the uncertainty surrounding the quarterback position, a slow start could mean the difference between a playoff push and a change at QB1. Kyler Murray is the type of quarterback that thrives on confidence. If he is able to propel this team early, that swagger may be just enough to make him look like the guy he was early in his career.

What are we looking for in week 1?
We are a week away from week 1 of the NFL season and Vikings fans are hoping to see a much more cohesive unit than what they saw last season. Can Justin Jefferson find any sort of chemistry with new quarterback Kyler Murray? That will be one of the top storylines for Minnesota. Jefferson and JJ McCarthy were never able to find a groove last season. Some of that was due to injuries, but the Vikings are hoping that Murray will be able to lead a more explosive offense. If the Vikings can unleash Justin Jefferson, there will be no shortage of excitement in Minnesota.

JJ McCarthy’s injury just delays the debate
Fans were left in the dark about JJ McCarthy’s future prior to the news of the Vikings’ roster cuts the other day. Despite the rumors circulating that the former Michigan alumni would not make the 53-man roster, McCarthy ended the day still a member of the Vikings. But with McCarthy’s current injury, is the debate over the QB1 spot gone for good or is it simply just delayed? When McCarthy returns from injury, the success of the team will play a part in what his role on this roster will be.

Surprise! JJ McCarthy makes the cut
Recent reports out of training camp weren’t looking too good for quarterback JJ McCarthy. But despite the pessimism, the former first round draft pick ended the day on the Vikings’ 53-man roster. The Vikings will, for the time being, carry four quarterbacks on the roster. It’s clear that newcomer Kyler Murray will begin the season as QB1, and McCarthy will battle with Carson Wentz for QB2. The Vikings were apparently unwilling to move on from McCarthy.

Justin Jefferson is “energized”
Justin Jefferson had a relatively quiet 2025 season. Having to deal with inconsistent quarterback play can be challenging, but one expert thinks that the addition of Kyler Murray can “energize” the star receiver. Michael Silver of The Athletic gave his take on where Jefferson’s mindset is at as we near the start of the season. “When a play might be dead, he’s able to kind of move with his feet and make something happen… But his throwing ability is also something that has really, really surprised me.”

JJ McCarthy discusses his missed red zone throws
JJ McCarthy is getting used to life as QB2 for the Minnesota Vikings. If he wants another chance to get on the field, he will need to improve in the red zone. McCarthy spoke to the media about his missed red zone throws. “Those are just throws I’ve got to make. (The coaches) called great plays. At the end of the day, I know I can make those throws. It was great to have that experience and data logged in to be able to make that throw next time.”

Aaron Jones has high praise for Justin Jefferson
Many NFL fans around the world consider Justin Jefferson to be among one of the best wide receivers in the league. Aaron Jones is no different. The running back spoke about Justin Jefferson. “I dont know how many quarterbacks he’s had, but 1k (yards) every year, I think that’s something to be proud of.” Jefferson has played with many different quarterbacks. Some were good. Some were not. The one constant has always been Justin Jefferson.

Could JJ McCarthy be an option for the Eagles?
The Minnesota Vikings have only played one preseason game thus far, but speculation is already mounting about the future of JJ McCarthy. After newcomer Kyler Murray was named QB1, many have begun to come up with potential trade partners for McCarthy. NFL analyst Jason La Canfora lists the Philadelphia Eagles as a potential suitor for McCarthy. The expert calls Philadelphia a “bargain-bin buyer” for the former Michigan star.

Are the Vikings giving up on JJ McCarthy?
With many people anticipating that Kyler Murray will be QB1 come week one, the question now arises whether or not it is too early to pull the plug on the JJ McCarthy experience? The Michigan alumni is by no means a perfect quarterback, but he is also far from the player Vikings fans have seen thus far. Injuries have tanked McCarthy’s career from the get-go. Fair or not, the doubt surrounding McCarthy has just as much to do with his availability as it does his play on the field. Is it too soon for the Vikings to give up on JJ McCarthy?

Kyler Murray the favorite for QB1?
The NFL season is nearing closer and the quarterback competition is beginning to become clearer. Ever since the Vikings brought in Kyler Murray, the QB1 position has been a major talking point. ESPN’s Ian Rapoport gave his two cents on his thoughts on the battle between Kyler Murray and JJ McCarthy. “To me, Kyler was their hand picked QB in free agency, he has done nothing to disappoint, it feels like he has the advantage here.”

Is the QB1 spot Kyler’s to lose?
Much of the talk surrounding the Minnesota Vikings this offseason has been about the starting quarterback position. After the Vikings acquired Kyler Murray, many fans have been curious who will begin the season under center. Well, according to KSTP sports anchor and SKOR North host Darren Wolfson, the quarterback battle isn’t much of a race after all. “I never once thought this is a legit quarterback battle. As long as Kyler Murray is healthy, I fully expect him to play September 13th.”

Chuck Demmings shows his confidence
Minnesota Vikings’ cornerback Chuck Demmings had some fascinating words regarding his mentality on defense. He said that he has a “nameless, faceless opponent” mentality against wide receivers, showing his confidence. “It’s never about the guy across from me. It’s all about me. Knowing myself is better than knowing my opponent… being a cornerback, that’s how you gotta think out there because it’s one of the hardest positions in the game.”

Can Kevin O’Connell manage the QB room?
Minnesota Vikings’ head coach Kevin O’Connell spoke to the media on Tuesday about how he plans on managing a quarterback room feature JJ McCarthy and Kyler Murray. “Both Kyler and JJ will take reps with first team. They will also take reps with the second group… We want an elevator at the QB position. In many ways doing that in this system is kinda a do your job mentality.” One thing is certain: Kevin O’Connell will have a major decision to make prior to week one.

Chuck Foreman speaks out on Vikings QB situation
Vikings legend Chuck Foreman gave his take on the team’s quarterback situation heading into the 2026 season. “I think it’s already known who’s gonna be the starter. They might pretend it’s gonna be a competition. We know what JJ is, immature and inexperienced. Carson Wentz, he came in a did a really good job for a minute, but then he fell off, cause he got injured. Then you went and got Kyler Murray. When you’re two time Texas player of the year in HS, you’re the real deal. Then you go to college and the number 1 guy off the board, and get drafted by a crappy team, now he’s got an opportunity to play with some really good football players.”
