The Minnesota Vikings claimed quarterback Brett Rypien on waivers on Tuesday, marking a reunion for the two sides. Rypien was a member of the team last season before being waived in order to make room for Daniel Jones. Following being waived, Brett Rypien re-signed with the Vikings practice squad.

The move is likely nothing more than an insurance policy for the Vikings, who will be without J.J. McCarthy this week due to a hairline fracture in his right hand. The team has already ruled McCarthy out, saying that Max Brosmer will return to the starting role.
