Should the Vikings consider Drake Lindsey next April?
It’s only July, but it’s never too early to begin looking at potential prospects for the Minnesota Vikings in the 2027 NFL Draft. One intriguing option is Minnesota quarterback Drake Lindsey. Although this is a projection, Lindsey has the arm strength and processing to be a first-round talent. PFSN writer Ryan Moran saw the vision and paired the two sides in his recent mock draft.
“Lindsey has an ideal 6-foot-5, 230-pound build. In 2025, he became the starter for Minnesota. He had a solid stat line with a 63.2% completion percentage, 2,382 passing yards, and 18 touchdowns to just 6 interceptions,” Moran wrote. “Lindsey’s best trait is his big arm. Anticipate an excellent upcoming season from Lindsey in which he plays himself into being a first-rounder.”
As Moran noted, Lindsey has an A-list arm that makes him a top quarterback in the nation. Additionally, he’s accurate at all three levels and has flashed elite anticipation. Although he’s a prototypical pocket passer, he has enough speed and athleticism to escape pass rushers and gain yards with his legs.
Despite his talent, Lindsey hasn’t gotten much national attention. Part of this can be attributed to playing at an “off-market” school in Minnesota, and the other half is likely due to the Golden Gophers not making much noise in the BIG 10. Because of this, he’s flying under the radar and is poised for a breakout year.
Even with this, Lindsey isn’t a perfect prospect. He must speed up his processing and needs to improve his ball placement. Both of these are fixable, and he only has one year of starting experience, so he has time to develop in these areas.
It’s important to note the goal of summer scouting. It isn’t intended to say that Lindsey is a perfect prospect and is a player that the Vikings must target in April. Instead, this is just saying that he’s someone who could make sense and is worth watching too. Nothing’s definitive, but the fit is promising.
With this in mind, Lindsey could make sense. The Vikings have a major issue at quarterback. Kyler Murray and JJ McCarthy both have ample talent, but have struggled with consistency in their career. As a result, the position could be a major need if nothing improves in 2026.
In summation, Drake Lindsey is still a raw prospect, but he has the talent of a first-round quarterback. The Golden Gopher will undoubtedly be a target for the Vikings if he puts together an amazing 2026 campaign.
