How did the Vikings fare in the NFL Draft?

The 2026 NFL Draft has officially wrapped up. The Minnesota Vikings were extremely active in the event, making eight selections. However, just because a team has chances doesn’t mean they will make the right picks. That brings up the question: how did the Vikings do? Below, I’ve graded their selections and added a brief explanation.

1:18- Caleb Banks: B

Banks’ talent is undeniable, but his injury history makes him a risky selection. He missed a majority of 2025 with a foot injury before suffering another fracture this offseason. He’s superb while on the field, being stout against the run and dynamic as a pass rusher, but he has to stay healthy.

2:51- Jake Golday: B+

Golday’s a perfect fit in Brian Flores’ defense. He’s impactful against the run, navigating through blocks to make the tackle. Additionally, he’s formidable in man and zone coverage, with ample athleticism to guard tight ends or running backs. He needs to improve his play recognition and instincts, but has the tools to be a stellar leader on defense.

3:82- Domonique Orange: B+

The selection of Orange may seem tedious after adding Caleb Banks earlier, but his prowess against the run and reliability make him a great selection. His elite strength and surprising first step make him a nightmare to stop. Orange won’t be impactful as a pass rusher, but will be a perfect early-down option.

3:98- Jakobe Thomas: C+

Thomas thrives as a physical, box safety who can stop the run. He’s a hard hitter and isn’t afraid of contact. He needs to improve in coverage and his fundamentals, but he can improve that over time. He will be an effective option for Brian Flores, who can grow into a star on defense.

5:159- Max Bredeson: C

Who doesn’t enjoy full backs? Bredeson is an outstanding blocker and will be the replacement for CJ Ham, who retired this offseason. He’s not a flashy selection, but will be an impactful player for the foreseeable future.

5:163- Charles Demmings: A-

Demmings is an unknown prospect coming from Stephen F. Austin, but is an amazing athlete and showed impressive fundamentals on tape. It may take a few years to translate to higher competition; however, he’s well worth the wait if he develops into a star.

6:198- Demond Claiborne: A+

Claiborne in round six is arguably the best pick of the entire draft. He’s an excellent change of pace back and is a perfect complement to Jordan Mason. He’s a valuable explosive threat and gives JJ McCarthy another dynamic weapon.

7:235- Gavin Gerhardt: C

Gerhardt was a three-time team captain at Cincinnati and will be an important locker room presence. While he likely won’t see the field early, he has the potential to develop into a plug-and-play starter.
