Why not make a mock draft ahead of training camp?
The 2027 NFL Draft is still in the distant future for the Minnesota Vikings, but it’s never too early for a mock draft. This three-round, pre-training-camp exercise is intended to help fans identify potential prospects who could resurface next offseason.
Having said that, let's keep the introduction short and sweet and dive into the mock draft.
Round One: Trevor Goosby- OT, Texas
The Vikings’ current offensive tackles have talent, but Christian Darrisaw and Brian O’Neil have both been plagued by injuries. Because of this, investing draft capital in Trevor Goosby would be wise. The redshirt junior pairs an elite frame with superb athleticism that makes him a promising prospect who could be a future star in the NFL.
Goosby provides alignment versatility as he’s seen snaps as a left and right tackle while at Texas. Additionally, the six-foot-seven, 312-pound player has the requisite agility and power to mitigate opposing edge rushers. He’s still raw and needs to improve his technique, but he has the potential to become the Vikings’ franchise tackle.
Round Two: Trey’Dez Green- TE, LSU
TJ Hockenson has been a dynamic weapon for the Vikings since 2022; however, he’s entering the final year of his contract and could head elsewhere next offseason. As a result, finding his successor is vital to their offense’s success. If they look in the draft, LSU tight end Trey’Dez Green will be an enticing option.
Green, the six-foot-seven, 237-pound junior, is a matchup nightmare with his superhuman frame, staggering power, and surprising speed. This makes him a dangerous contested catch threat, particularly in the red zone. He’s still developing as a blocker, but Green is an intriguing option with his receiving prowess.
Round Three: DJ McKinney- CB, Notre Dame
DJ McKinney was highly regarded heading into 2025, but after a disappointing season at Colorado, he transferred to Notre Dame and seeks to reestablish his draft stock. The six-foot-two, 180-pound cornerback has excellent ball skills and uses his amazing athleticism to shut down wide receivers in coverage. His technique, particularly in press coverage, must improve during 2026, but he could be one of college football’s biggest risers if it does.
Round Three: Cam Cook- RB, West Virginia
Cam Cook led the nation last season with 1,650 rushing yards at Jacksonville State. Now, he’s moving up to the Power-Four level and will be the starter at West Virginia. Cook lacks elite top-end speed, but his short-area quickness and burst are unparalleled in college football. Additionally, he has outstanding vision and creativity that allow him to survey the field and find an open lane. Once he has the ball, it’s difficult to bring Cook down as he’s incredibly elusive. He’s undoubtedly a name Vikings’ fans must know heading into 2026.
