Should the Vikings consider Trinidad Chambliss in the draft?

Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss is one of the most explosive players in college football, with his elite improvisational ability, respectable arm, and poise in the biggest moments. Despite being undersized, he’s an intriguing option for the Minnesota Vikings in the 2027 NFL Draft.

Currently, the Vikings don’t have a franchise quarterback. Kyler Murray is the starter and is undeniably talented, but his career has been defined by inconsistency. Additionally, 2024 first-round pick JJ McCarthy has been a swing-and-a-miss. Barring an unforeseen breakout season, the Vikings will be looking for their future signal-caller next offseason and could address the need in the draft.

If they do, Chambliss will be an option. The sixth-year senior has had a wild career path, spending his first four seasons at Ferris State (D2). After winning the division-two MVP, he transferred to Ole Miss, where he was the backup to start the season. Then, he jumped into action after an injury to the starter and never looked back, playing the rest of the season and leading the Rebels to the College Football Playoffs Semi-Final.

To put it simply, Chambliss is a playmaker. He’s able to extend a play because of his outstanding mobility and can make throws other quarterbacks can’t see. He has an impressive arm and can hit every throw on the field. Chambliss has an elite touch on the ball and expertly layers it over defenders. Beyond this, he plays with excellent anticipation and keeps the ball out of harm’s way.

An underrated aspect of Chambliss’ game is his fearlessness and ability to rise to the situation. He’s at his best late in the fourth quarter in high-pressure situations. This is something every NFL front office needs in their quarterback.

The biggest question surrounding Chambliss is his size. He’s listed at six-foot, 200 pounds (which is generous) and can struggle to target the middle of the field while in the pocket. As of now, he’s forced to escape the tackle box to find an open window. Showing scouts that he can see over the line and efficiently target between the numbers is key to establishing himself as a first-round prospect.

It’s still early, but Trinidad Chambliss is arguably the most exciting player in the nation and will be a fascinating prospect to discuss next offseason. Despite being severely undersized for a quarterback, he’s a playmaker and uses his unparalleled improvisational ability, impressive arm, and poise in the biggest moments to dominate games. Don’t be surprised to hear his name floating around Minnesota next offseason.
