Should the Vikings consider KJ Duff next offseason?
We are still deep into the offseason, but it’s never too early to begin scouting for the 2027 NFL Draft. One prospect that the Minnesota Vikings should be aware of is Rutgers wide receiver KJ Duff. His superhuman frame, prowess in contested catches, and surprising athleticism make him a premier player who could make headlines next offseason.
Before we begin, it’s important to note the goal of summer scouting. This article isn’t proclaiming Duff a perfect prospect as someone the Vikings must draft. Instead, it’s meant to inform fans about a talented player who could be a potential option next April.
Having said that, it’s time to dive into the scouting report for wide receiver KJ Duff.
KJ Duff is a dominant X receiver who epitomizes the phrase "bully ball" in contested catch situations with his towering frame, unflappable hands, and surprising movement speed; his main task in 2026 is to show scouts that he’s more than a one-trick pony and can separate from defenders.
Duff’s A-list trait is his prowess in contested catch situations. The six-foot-six, 225-pound receiver pairs staggering strength with pristine timing that allows him to box out his defender and highpoint the ball. Additionally, he has superb hands that rarely drop the pigskin. This makes him a reliable option that the quarterback can consistently target while under duress.
Contrary to other receivers of Duff’s size, he’s an exceptional athlete and has threatening deep speed. He understands how to stem his defender, use their leverage against them, and create space. This ability makes him dangerous as he’s capable of burning a singular defender and creating a game-changing moment.
The main task for Duff in 2026 is to show scouts he’s more than a contested catch threat. It’s a foregone conclusion that he’s dominant in one-on-one situations, but he must prove he can create consistent separation and doesn’t solely rely on that. If he does, don’t be surprised to see him skyrocket up analysts' rankings.
These aforementioned skills should intrigue the Vikings as they need a big-bodied X receiver. They signed veteran Jauan Jennings to a one-year deal this offseason to fill this role, but he’s a temporary replacement. As a result, finding their long-term answer to complement Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison would be wise.
It’s far too early to say anything definitive, but Vikings fans must pay attention to KJ Duff throughout the season. His dominance in catch situations, secure hands, and surprising speed make him an elite prospect who could find himself in first-round conversations during the 2027 NFL Draft.
