PFF delivers the verdict for both sides of the ball.
The Minnesota Vikings fell to the Baltimore Ravens 13-3 on Saturday afternoon. The starters on both sides of the ball were not in action, but there was plenty of interesting performances with players looking to make their mark ahead of cut down day. The result of the game isn't important, but what you put on tape can be the deciding factor between making the 53-man roster or looking for another opportunity.
Pro Football Focus has submitted their final grades for each player. Let's look at which players were the highest and lowest graded.
Offense
Highest: RB Zavier Scott 75.2
When the offense fails to score a touchdown, it is fair to expect that the grades won't be favorable for many players. Running back Zavier Scott takes the crown with a 75.2 offensive grade. Despite not starting, Scott did enough to warrant the highest grade on offense.
On just 22 snaps, the modest stat line of 28 yards on seven carries doesn't seem like much, but Scott forced three missed tackles. With 23 yards after contact, Scott ran hard and was tough to bring down on Saturday.
With seven more snaps from the preseason opener, Scott improved his grade from 48.0 to 75.2. The only real blemish is Scott's pass blocking grade, which came in at 40.2.
Lowest: QB Max Brosmer 37.9
While J.J. McCarthy's performance has been widely discussed for inconsistency, it was actually Brosmer who finished with the lowest grade on offense.
With a TWP (turnover worthy play) and a modest passing showing of 11/17 for 98 yards, PFF wasn't kind to the quarterback. The interception on Brosmer's record certainly didn't help.
Defense
Highest: DE Elijah Williams 86.5
The Vikings defense was the best unit on the field and the race for the highest grade was a close one with Jacob Thomas coming in two points behind Williams. Finishing with two defensive stops, two tackles, a QB hurry and a pressure, the defensive end claims the top spot on defense.
Not to be dismissed, Williams also finished with the highest run defense grade of 83.2.
Lowest: LB Smith Vilbert 30.2
On 18 snaps, Vilbert didn't finish with a single tackle and a blank stat sheet. Not to be outdone, the linebacker finished with the lowest run defense grade at 32.2. The Vikings decided to give Vilbert 17 more snaps than the opener, but the opportunity passed him by unfortunately.
