The Minnesota Vikings were able to stay undefeated as they won a tight 16-10 game over the Indianapolis Colts.
The Minnesota Vikings had a very competitive game against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday afternoon, which ended in a 16-10 victory for the Vikings.
Throughout this game, offense was very limited for both sides, and there were not a ton of explosive plays to talk about. However, in the first quarter, Colts running back Jonathan Taylor was able to find his way through the Minnesota defense for a 38-yard touchdown run to put Indianapolis up 7-0.
After the run from Taylor, the Colts' offense slowed down quite a bit, but quarterback Kyler Murray was able to help the Vikings get going on offense as he led them on two solid drives in the second quarter. Minnesota was unable to finish in the end zone, so they settled for a 28-yard field goal from kicker Will Reichard to cut the Colts' lead to 7-3, and then the Vikings got another field goal as Reichard hit a 47-yarder to trim the lead to 7-6.
On the final drive of the half, Colts' quarterback Daniel Jones led the offense on a solid drive, which ended in points as kicker Spencer Shrader hit a 43-yard field goal to extend the Indianapolis lead to 10-6 on the final play of the first half.
Out of halftime each team punted the ball once and then the Colts got a decent drive going, however, they were stopped and Shrader missed a 56-yard field goal which gave the Vikings excellent field position.
With the great field position, Minnesota was able to capitalize as Murray had an explosive 35-yard run to get the Vikings into the end zone, and then Murray threw a five-yard touchdown pass to tight end T.J. Hockenson which put Minnesota a 13-10 lead.
After that, Minnesota got a stop and had a good a decent drive that set up Reichard for a 59-yard field goal attempts, however it was blocked by Colts defensive tackle Grover Stewart which set up Indianapolis at around midfield. Even with the solid field position, the Colts could not do anything with it as the offense moved the ball a little bit, however they ended settling for a field goal and Shrader missed the 48-yard field.
Following the miss from Shrader, the Vikings steadily marched the ball down the field and had opportunities to end the game, however key penalties took away big plays. So, as a result, Minnesota sent Reichard out to kick a 52-yard field goal and he was able to convert which allowed the Vikings to extend the lead to 16-10.
Then, the Colts got the ball back and needed to respond, but Jones forced the ball into a tight window, and Vikings safety Harrison Smith intercepted the pass, which essentially ended the game as Indianapolis elected to not use their final time out and Minnesota kneeled the ball down and used up the rest of the clock.
As a result of the win, the Vikings were able to stay undefeated and improve to 6-0 and the Colts fell to 2-5.
In this game, the Vikings still had their struggles on the offensive side, but when Murray and the offense needed to make a play, they did, in addition to having the defense and the special teams playing at a very high level, resulting in yet another tight win for Minnesota.
Moving forward, the Vikings do still need to figure out how they can be more consistent on the offensive side, but at least for now, the focus is on the fact that the offense, defense, and special teams made the plays they needed and that this team is still undefeated heading into Week 8 of the 2026 season.
