Minnesota Vikings WR Justin Jefferson is due for a breakout game today against the Green Bay Packers.
Over the last five weeks, he’s been held under 80 yards receiving, but in the two weeks before that, he had 120 plus. He’s also only found the end zone one time since the Vikings’ opening game against the Chicago Bears. And all signs point to this being a breakout game. He’s shown frustration the past couple of weeks with young quarterback J.J. McCarthy, and there’s no question those two have been working together in practice to build some chemistry as the superstar receiver looks to get back to the status of the best in the entire NFL.
And against a great Packers team today that overall has a very strong defense and a great pass rush, there is still one weakness that has shown up on film. This defense has been susceptible to allowing some big plays down the field. If there’s one unit that can be exploited in today’s game, it certainly is the secondary.
And the reality is that no matter how good a defense is or what individual player is lined up against Justin Jefferson or what scheme is thrown at him, he has the talent to go off any given week. It really comes down to whether McCarthy can get him the ball.
And with McCarthy having another week of practice under his belt and another week of experience, he’s playing his sixth NFL game today, so look for this to be a breakout game for him too. Because if Jefferson is going to break out, obviously, McCarthy is a factor in that actually happening.
And that’s why not only is Jefferson breaking out a real possibility today, but the Vikings actually making this game against the Packers ultra competitive in a divisional contest is also very much on the table.
Kickoff from Lambeau Field will happen at 12:00 p.m. CT on Sunday afternoon.
