Schefter reveals Vikings' trade interest in linebacker Jonathan Greenard and a potential signing for quarterback Kyler Murray.

There are some moves you want to make and some moves you'd rather not make. The Vikings are tied to one of each of those moves in one NFL insider's update.

Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting the Vikings are in on one trade and one potential free agent signing. The trade under consideration is talented linebacker Jonathan Greenard.

Schefter shared that the Philadelphia Eagles have shown interest in Greenard in their bid for a stronger defense in 2026. He wrote where things stand in his early free agency update.

"As a contingency, the Eagles are believed to have inquired about Minnesota's Jonathan Greenard. The Vikings have received many inquiries on Greenard, who will be far cheaper to acquire than Crosby. A Day 2 pick probably gets a deal done. But complicating matters is Greenard's contract. Teams say he wants a new deal. His current contract is set to pay him $38 million over the next two years. Mafe is also considered a viable edge option if the Phillips deal doesn't materialize."

Certainly, Greenard is not a player the Vikings would like to part with after a strong campaign in 2025. The productive linebacker has played a significant role in the Vikings' defensive dominance. Nevertheless, given the team's cap situation and limited resources to make moves, trading Greenard for a draft pick could be another way to address offseason questions and create salary cap room in 2026.

The other potential offseason deal mentioned is the one we have been monitoring for a while, the potential signing of free agent quarterback Kyler Murray. Schefter suggests Murray intends to be patient as he looks to find the best spot for him.

"Soon-to-be free agent quarterback Kyler Murray could choose to be methodical in picking his next destination. Once released around the start of the new league year, he'll want to speak to potential suitors and possibly make a few visits. Minnesota will be an option. The Colts and Falcons have talent and quarterbacks who might not be ready to start the season. That could become a factor for veteran quarterbacks weighing options, too."

The Vikings are likely the best option among places where Murray could start immediately, although the Los Angeles Rams could make more sense in the long-term. We'll see where Murray's search leads him, but it looks like the talented quarterback is intent on finding the right spot. So far, the Vikings are still in it.
