The Minnesota Vikings have officially signed Jauan Jennings.
The Minnesota Vikings already had a strong receiver room entering the upcoming season, but they had a void to fill with Jalen Nailor leaving in free agency. Not only did they fill that void, but they may have actually improved the third wide receiver spot in the process.
On Thursday night, the Vikings signed former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings to a one-year deal worth up to $13 million. It’s a meaningful addition for Minnesota, especially when you consider the upgrade over last year’s WR3 in Nailor, who they lost earlier this offseason after he signed a three-year, $35 million deal with the Raiders.
And Jennings isn’t just some depth piece. He was highly productive in San Francisco, especially over the last two seasons, where he totaled 132 catches for 1,618 yards and 15 touchdowns. That kind of production shows exactly why this is such a solid move for Minnesota. Jennings has proven he can be a reliable option in the passing game, and now he steps into a Vikings offense that already had a strong foundation at receiver.
Not only is he a WR who can eat yards throughout a game, but he’s a significant endzone threat.
That is what makes this feel like more than just a simple replacement for Nailor. The Vikings didn’t just patch a hole. They brought in a more proven, more productive veteran who should give them another dependable target in the passing game. And with Kyler Murray now in Minnesota as well, Jennings gives the Vikings another legitimate weapon on offense.
At the very least, Minnesota replaced a departing contributor with a player who has shown even more high-level production. And in a league where depth at wide receiver matters more than ever, that is a smart way for the Vikings to strengthen a position that was already one of the better groups on the roster.
The trio in Minnesota is now Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison and Jauan Jennings.
