Despite a perfect start, offensive stagnation and a depleted tight end room could force the undefeated Vikings to hunt for veteran playmakers before the looming trade deadline.

The Minnesota Vikings have plenty to be confident about as we go further into the second quarter of the NFL season. The Vikings are off to a fast start with a perfect 5-0 record to begin the season.

On the surface, things could not be going any better for the team. In reality, Minnesota knows one side of the football has to get better if the team wants to be viewed as serious playoff contenders.

While undefeated, the Vikings have one of the worst offenses in the National Football League through three games. Minnesota improved to the No. 27 ranked offense with 283.0 yards per game after defeating the New Orleans Saints 23-13 on Sunday. There are only 32 teams.

To address the offensive stagnation, some suggest Minnesota should look to the trade market to add playmakers.

Jerry Markarian of Heavy discussed the rumors that the Vikings may pursue a tight end before the trade deadline closes. Here is some of what Markarian had to say about Minnesota's chances to make a move via trade.

"With backup TE Josh Oliver landing on Injured Reserve after suffering a torn triceps, tight end was near the top of the list of positions where the Vikings could least afford another injury. Unfortunately, T.J. Hockenson then suffered a concussion against the Saints.

While Minnesota does benefit from a timely Week 6 Bye Week, his status should still be considered murky at best for the Week 7 clash against Indianapolis. If he misses the contest, Gavin Bartholomew and Ben Yurosek would take on a bigger role. That’s not exactly a great situation.

Even with Hockenson back in the lineup, he’s never been known for his blocking. That’s an area where the Vikings could use a boost, regardless of his status. If the Vikings strike a buy-low deal on offense, adding to the tight end position would probably make the most sense."

Minnesota made what felt like major strides on the offensive side with quarterback play. Kyler Murray completed 24 of his 30 passing attempts. And while he only went for just over 220 yards passing, the high completion rate was something the Vikings were not getting last year.

Adding a tight end won't cure the Vikings' ills, but it could shore up a position that stands to improve. Keep an eye on Minnesota before the trade deadline as it hopes to solidify its chances at a playoff run in the 2026 postseason.
