Brian Flores has transformed a defense without superstars into an elite machine, fueling locker room belief that Minnesota’s perfect start is just the beginning of something special.

The Minnesota Vikings (5-0) had an uneventful Sunday. The Vikings enjoyed their bye week after their perfect start to the season.

This past Sunday, the Vikings saw the team they just defeated by 10 points on the road, the New Orleans Saints, defeat their former starting quarterback J.J. McCarthy and the New York Giants. It's unclear whether the Vikings' 5-0 start or the fact that McCarthy is already registering playing time for another team is more surprising.

Life comes at you fast.

At any rate, we're all looking back at the first five games of the season. One NFL analyst had plenty to share about the early sample.

K. Joudry of Vikings Territory gave Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores credit for his team's fast start. Here's what Joudry said on Flores' season.

"Brian Flores doesn't have any elite players. He has several good players, some of whom are very good (Dallas Turner, Blake Cashman, etc.), but nobody who is in the same stratosphere as a Justin Jefferson.

Coach Flores is nevertheless leading an elite defense.

Keep in mind, folks, that the excuses could be ample. The DC is working through an ongoing lawsuit against the NFL for racial discrimination. Most people would find this situation stressful, especially since Coach Flores continues to be employed in the NFL. Maybe he is stressed but that hasn't hindered him from proving over and over again that he's among the most sophisticated football minds in the game."

Joudry added that the Vikings have the belief they can make a run this season.

"I don't pretend to be clairvoyant. Nor, for that matter, have I ever been mistaken for someone who can read minds. Maybe the coaching staff and/or roster boasts some doubters. What I nevertheless feel confident proclaiming is that there's genuine belief about this team doing something special. The locker room is healthy and thinks Minnesota can go on a run. That does mean something."

Whether or not the Vikings have or do not have elite defensive players is debatable. Whether or not what Flores is doing is incredible is not debatable.

The Vikings are a machine with no signs of slowing down. Still, it's a long season and Minnesota has to prove it can sustain a high level for 17 games.

The Vikings will hope to stay in the win column and continue to improve on offense as the season progresses.
