Desperate to spark a stagnant offense, Minnesota adds the veteran playmaker to bolster a struggling receiving corps and provide relief for an ailing Justin Jefferson.

You're not imagining anything. The Minnesota Vikings have signed former New York Giants star receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

The Vikings have been hurting for offense for much of the year despite staying in the win column. Minnesota had a clear need for a wide receiver after a 15-10 win over the Miami Dolphins put the team at 262.8 yards per game. That yards per game average put the Vikings as the second-worst team in the NFL in that metric with just 1.5 yards more than the Tennessee Titans per contest (261.3).

With the clear need and the health of star wide receiver Justin Jefferson in jeopardy, the Vikings made the move to go add veteran wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to the squad. It could have an underrated impact.

Giants coach John Harbaugh discussed the move to move on from Beckham Jr. Here's some of what he had to say about that decision on the Vikings' newest wide receiver addition.

"Had a great conversation with Odell and it's tough. But we just weren't getting enough. It just wasn't working for us. And like I told him, I wanted to be able to get more. I wanted him to be able to do more. I wanted to get him on the field more. Whatever reason, we weren't able to do it. Put it on us. We weren't able to get it done. At this point in time, that's kind of where we were and we needed to move on."

His new coach had thoughts of his own on the Vikings' addition of the significant potential impact player. Here's what Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell discussed on his anticipated role and impact heading into Week 5 of the 2026 NFL season.

"He kind of got a lot of the initial soreness and things out last week, and see what he's able to kind of handle from a practice standpoint leading into Sunday, but don't know exactly where he's gonna be at. We have the bye next week."

Beckham is clearly past his prime, but he does have the veteran savvy, experience and pass catching ability to make a difference for Minnesota. After all, when you're averaging well under 300 yards of total offense per game with the talent the Vikings have, there's more room to improve than fall backward.

The addition doesn't fix everything wrong with the offense, but it does improve the Vikings' roster. Minnesota will hope to utilize his skillset and generate more offense as the season progresses.
