With Jalen Nailor gone, second-year speedster Tai Felton finally has the chance to ignite Minnesota’s offense and prove he was worth the wait for J.J. McCarthy.

The Minnesota Vikings have a void at the third receiver position. The void is left by now Las Vegas Raiders wideout Jalen Nailor.

Nailor was productive in the 2025 season. At times, he seemed to be starting quarterback J.J. McCarthy's favorite target as teams did all they could to limit star wide receiver Justin Jefferson. With Nailor gone, many wonder what wide receiver will emerge to replace his production. Enter second-year wide receiver Tai Felton.

Felton was not much of a factor in 2025. It's unclear if the reason for that is that Felton was not ready or that he was simply learning how to be an NFL receiver last year. Granted, the conditions for playing wideout for Minnesota were not ideal with McCarthy at quarterback.

Dustin Baker of Vikings Territory believes Felton has a chance to surprise in the 2026 season. Here's what Baker shared on Felton's potential for impact.

"No, Felton didn’t play much on offense as a rookie. Yes, he’s the WR3 by default right now. There’s a chance the Vikings drafted Felton in 2025, planned for a full redshirt year as a rookie, and are ready for him to erupt in 2026. Of course, those are best-laid plans, but they must be mentioned for full disclosure. If any other team in the NFL had drafted a Round 3 wide receiver and let the existing WR3 walk in free agency (Jalen Nailor), that team’s fan base would just assume the 3rd-Rounder was on deck for the job.

But Felton was a pick by Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, so onlookers don’t know if he fundamentally stinks or is just taking a while to develop. Perhaps Vikings fans have not shown enough patience with Felton. The time is now for him to seize the WR3 by the neck.

If Felton does emerge, he certainly has the speed for the job: 4.37 at the 2025 NFL Combine."

The former Maryland Terrapins wide receiver has yet to break out for the Vikings on the field but may have every opportunity to do so in 2026. Felton may be the presumed third wide receiver given that the Vikings were not yet able to sign San Francisco free agent wideout Jauan Jennings.

The Vikings may continue to pursue top free agent receivers and potential trade additions, but Felton may still play a role in the team's hunt for a third target. He will look to break out in September.
