After cutting ties with Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, Minnesota narrows its search to top external candidates tasked with fixing the salary cap and resolving the high-stakes quarterback dilemma.

The Minnesota Vikings are still without a general manager following the 2026 NFL draft. The instability is something that the Vikings are working tirelessly to address.

Many are wondering what the team is going to do in filling the open general manager position and what type of hire the team will make. Recent reports have shed light on who the team might be interested in as its general manager search intensifies.

Eduardo Razo of Heavy is keeping a close eye on which individuals the team may have interest in adding this offseason. Razo updated the latest of what he has seen with the search. Here is what he had to share about the franchise's open general manager vacancy.

"In January 2026, Minnesota decided to cut ties with former general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah. Rather than fill the role right away, the team decided to give the position in the interim to Rob Brzezinski, the Vikings’ vice president of football operations.

Nonetheless, on May 12, NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported, citing sources, that the Vikings have made a request to interview other external candidates.

'The Vikings requested interviews with Lions assistant GM Ray Agnew, Broncos assistant GM Reed Burckhardt and Dolphins assistant GM Kyle Smith for their general manager job, sources say,' Pelissero wrote on X.

'Minnesota’s initial round of virtual interviews is underway, and the list has now expanded.'

While there are a few new candidates Minnesota intends to interview before deciding on the general manager position, on the May 8 edition of 'The Alec Lewis Show,' The Athletic’s Alec Lewis shared two external candidates generating the most buzz."

The objectives for the Vikings' next general manager seem clear. The first seems to be bringing stability to the salary cap so that the team can have room to make roster additions. The current staff has done well in beginning that process in the interim with high quality financial moves that improve the team but don't hamtring the team from making more moves next season.

The next objective seems to be figuring out the quarterback position for the long-term. That means the team needs to decide if new signee Kyler Murray or former Top 10 draft pick J.J. McCarthy is the long-term answer after this season. Whoever it is may receive a franchise quarterback contract in the offseason.

It appears we know some of the candidates the Vikings are considering hiring for the new general manager position. We'll update which direction the team goes as the search reaches its conclusion.
