Kevin O’Connell reveals mixed fortunes for Minnesota's stars, offering hope for Justin Jefferson’s ankle recovery while confirming a devastating season-ending bicep tear for tight end Josh Oliver.

The Minnesota Vikings have had their fair share of headlines over the past 48 hours. After securing a third consecutive win in Sunday's 23-16 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Vikings lost a former Top 10 draft pick via trade.

The trade was the choice of the Vikings, but that fact did not make it sting any less. Former starting quarterback J.J. McCarthy and Minnesota parted ways as McCarthy headed to the New York Giants.

The Vikings are still 3-0 and appear to have an answer for the quarterback of the future in Kyler Murray with Carson Wentz plugged in as a quality backup. Nevertheless, the undefeated Vikings still have uncertainty on their current squad. The bruised up receiver corps is still on the mend after a physical first three games.

Eric Strack of the Minnesota Sports Fan discussed the Vikings' injury situation including two key players that the team will need going forward. Here's some of what he had to say about the team's injury luck.

"Obviously, the McCarthy trade took priority during KOC's meetup with the media, but the fifth-year Vikings head coach also took a moment during his opening statement to reveal the latest on Justin Jefferson's injured ankle.

Given the circumstances, it was good news, which is exactly what O'Connell called it today. The injury is not considered a concern long-term. Instead, it's a mild sprain.

Over the next couple of days, Minnesota's medical staff will work to get the swelling down in Jefferson's ankle, before hopefully ramping him up for Sunday against the Dolphins. Now, will they be able to turn him around that fast? Well, that's the ultimate question that only some time can answer.

Unfortunately, the news was not as positive regarding tight end Josh Oliver. O'Connell confirmed reports from earlier in the day that he suffered a torn bicep against the Bucs, which will require surgery. That likely means Oliver will miss most, if not all, of the rest of the season on injured reserve."

Certainly, Jefferson is the big-time contributor that the Vikings need most. Arguably the NFL's best receiver, alongside players like Ja'Marr Chase and Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Minnesota's offense in many ways relies on Jefferson to make plays.

Facing the Dolphins takes the pressure off to a degree, but the news that Jefferson could play this weekend is welcomed.

The status for Oliver and Jefferson is still pending, but the Vikings will hope to get both back soon. Minnesota will aim to leave the game with an undefeated, 4-0 record when time expires against the Dolphins.
