With Jalen Nailor gone, the Vikings eye a familiar face. Could K.J. Osborn rejoin Minnesota, filling the crucial WR3 vacancy for 2026?
The Minnesota Vikings are in search of a No. 3 wide receiver for the 2026 season after the departure of breakout wide receiver Jalen Nailor. At least, they should be looking for a third receiver option.
Nailor departs a position room that boasts perhaps the best receiver in the NFL in Jordan Jefferson and another good one in Jordan Addison. That said, the depth is not strong after the two players. And while some suggest one can make do with two good receivers if the quarterback is right, Minnesota can ill afford to leave new starting quarterback Kyler Murray without enough weapons to throw the ball.
A former Vikings No. 3 receiver became a topic of discussion this week. Will Ragatz of Minnesota Vikings on SI writes that K.J. Osborn could return to the team this season.
"With the Vikings in need of a new No. 3 receiver following Jalen Nailor's departure, could they look to the player who held that role for a few years before Nailor took it over?
K.J. Osborn was the Vikings' WR3 from 2021-23, first under Mike Zimmer and then under Kevin O'Connell. Since leaving two offseasons ago when his rookie contract expired, he hasn't been able to replicate his success in Minnesota elsewhere. He's bounced around a bit, going from New England to Washington to Atlanta without playing a whole lot. Now a free agent again, Osborn implied he'd love to return to the Vikings in a recent podcast interview.
Osborn turns 29 in June, so he should still have some gas left in the tank. He would come with plenty of knowledge of O'Connell's offense and would be a seamless addition to the Vikings' locker room."

Geoff Burke-Imagn ImagesThe former Vikings wide receiver certainly could fit well in Minnesota. The question is whether or not the move really helps the Vikings for the 2026 season.
Minnesota needs to improve at the position with an upgrade, not simply fill the depth spot. The loss of Nailor leaves a significant void that could cause the team's ceiling to take a hit for the upcoming season.
Conversely, the Vikings have to consider how much they can really spend on another receiver despite making significant strides in their salary cap situation so far this offseason.
The happy medium for Minnesota is that the team likely goes and finds a wide receiver in the upcoming NFL draft. Look for the Vikings to find a quality backup option when the draft starts in April.
