Is it possible Minnesota test's the trade market ahead of the deadline for potential depth?
The Minnesota Vikings could potentially make a significant move ahead of the NFL trade deadline, and adding a running back could be on the table as the team looks to strengthen its roster amid injuries.
Darren Wolfson of SKOR North recently suggested that Minnesota could be willing to make a sizable trade before the deadline, raising questions about how aggressive the Vikings could be in pursuing outside help.
“I think something’s for sure coming, the question is, is it multiple. I’m more curious about that versus whether they do anything,” Wolfson said.
Wolfson's comments suggest the conversation surrounding Minnesota is less about whether the Vikings will make a move and more about how many additions they could pursue. A sizable trade would signal that the organization see's an opportunity to win now and that they believe in the pieces they have in the building.
One potential area to address is running back.
Minnesota's backfield could benefit from additional help, particularly if the team wants more consistency in the rushing attack. Acquiring a promising, young back before the deadline would give the Vikings another spark in the backfield as they battle injuries at the position.
Minnesota could also target a player with experience, potentially on the offensive line, who could contribute without requiring the team to develop a long-term solution from scratch. With Donovan Jackson now out for the season with a meniscus tear, I wouldn't rule out a potential addition on the interior of the offensive front.
However, Wolfson did not identify a specific position or player the Vikings could target in a potential deal.
For now, the possibility of a big move for a running back or offensive lineman remains speculation.
The Vikings may be in need of more depth and insurance compared to other teams, so it could be in best interest to add potential contributors to an already cohesive roster.
Wolfson's comments do not guarantee that Minnesota will make a move. But they do leave the door open for a significant roster change soon. With the deadline approaching, the Vikings' next move could reveal how aggressively the coaching staff intends to address their needs for the remainder of the season.
With a road matchup against the New Orleans Saints up next, Minnesota’s performance could help determine which areas the Vikings prioritize addressing before the trade deadline and whether a running back becomes a realistic target.
