Should the Vikings add a wide receiver early or wait until a later round?
Wide receiver is a major need for the Minnesota Vikings during the 2026 NFL Draft; however, it’s unlikely they will address it early, rather opting for a defensive prospect. Because of this, it’s imperative that they find a suitable option later in the event. Luckily for them, a dream player awaits in Ole Miss receiver De’Zhaun Stribling.
The Vikings lack depth outside of Justin Jefferson. Jordan Addison was added in the first-round of the 2023 NFL Draft, and has produced while on the field, but has been arrested three times since entering the league. Additionally, Jalen Nailor, the third option, departed during free agency. As a result, grabbing another receiver is necessary.
De’Zhaun Stribling is an amazing value option. The six-foot-two, 207-pound X receiver is an excellent complement in the Vikings offense. He’s a productive middle-of-the-field threat and creates big plays after the catch with his athleticism and elusiveness.
Stribling flew onto the national radar with an impeccable 9.9 relative athletic score. He recorded a blazing 4.36 40-yard dash, 36” vertical and 10’7” broad jump. He uses this ability to create separation and burn defenders after the catch. He’s strong enough to break through arm tackles and shifty enough to make people miss.
Stribling’s prowess between the hashes will make him impactful immediately in the NFL. He excels at stemming defenders, especially while running slant routes. Additionally, he has reliable hands and can withstand contact at the catch point.
Despite this ability, Stribling’s evaluation is clouded because of his route running. He’s outstanding at in-breaking routes, but needs to improve his tree. This was a serious problem at Ole Miss, as he was limited to vertical or middle-of-the-field routes. However, this wasn’t a major problem at Oklahoma State, where he spent 2023 and 2024.
Due to this, NFL teams must evaluate whether this was a scheme issue or a digression from Stribling. In my opinion, this is more of an Ole Miss problem, as this problem has been evident with multiple prospects in recent seasons. However, it’s still concerning and must be improved. Regardless of this, the value is still enticing on late day-two or early day-three.
Overall, Ole Miss wide receiver De’Zhaun Stribling is an intriguing mid-round option and a perfect fit in the Vikings offense. The team likely won’t invest heavy draft capital into the position, so finding a value option is crucial, which Stribling fits to a tee.
