What running back should the Vikings select?
The Minnesota Vikings are in the market for a running back during the 2026 NFL Draft. Unfortunately for them, a suitable option likely won’t be available during the first, or even the second round. Because of this, they must find a value option that would pair well with Jordan Mason. While there are countless options, these five stand out as the primary targets for the Vikings.
Emmett Johnson-
Emmett Johnson’s elusiveness and creativity make him an enticing option for the Vikings, despite his subpar testing at the 2026 NFL Combine. He’s patient in the backfield, then has spectacular short-area quickness that allows him to fly through an open lane. It’s difficult for a defender to bring him down because Johnsonand spin moves has elite juke . He would pair well with Jordan Mason and form a dynamic tandem for the foreseeable future.
Jadarian Price-
Jadarian Price would be a starter for 95% of college football teams; unfortunately for him, he was behind Jeremiyah Love for his entire career. Regardless of this, his blazing speed, ability to navigate space, and special teams value make him an ideal option for the Vikings. While Price won’t break tons of tackles, he understands angles and how to fly past defenders. His familiarity with working in a split backfield would bode well as he shares carries with Mason.
Mike Washington Jr.-
Mike Washington Jr. is an absurd athlete, achieving a perfect 10.0 RAS score, for being six-foot-one, 223 pounds. This, combined with his elite vision, will help him be an instant contributor in the NFL. He’s hard-nosed and isn’t afraid of contact - frequently running through ill-advised attempts. He has serious fumble concerns, 10 in his career, but should easily translate to the NFL.
Demond Claiborne-
Demond Claiborne is a flawed prospect - having sub-par strength, turnover concerns, and inconsistent hands - but his burst and top-end speed create an ideal change-of-pace back. He’s lightning in a bottle and is constantly a threat for a game-changing play. Additionally, he has kick return experience and can help there instantly. Claiborne can’t produce on every down, but would be an excellent option when the offense needs a spark.
Jadyn Ott-
This one may get some backlash, but Jadyn Ott is an intriguing late-round option for the Vikings. He’s had a disastrous past two seasons, only racking up a combined 453 yards. However, his first two seasons at Cal and his performance at the Reese's Senior Bowl are good enough to warrant a selection. It may take a few years for him to contribute, but he has the potential to be a primary option in the league.
