We have to start stepping up the hot takes before Sunday.

The Minnesota Vikings are set to kick off the 2026 season against division rival Green Bay on Sunday and the anticipation for the game and season is palpable. Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell is eager to prove last season was a one off for Minnesota and new starting quarterback Kyler Murray is basically playing for his future as a starting quarterback in the NFL. A big season will lead to a big contract from Minnesota or some place else, but he needs to put together a reliable and consistent season.

The NFC North is filled with potential playoff teams. Everyone loves the Chicago Bears. The Detroit Lions are looking to return to the playoffs and Green Bay, somehow, always is in the mix. Four teams aren't going to make the playoffs and the divisional matchups will be a blood bath, but is it really a hot take to believe Minnesota will be in the tournament?

Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report believes it's a bold prediction and he doesn't care who knows it.

"I'll preface this by stating I think the NFC wild-card race is going to be bonkers. I've already got the Giants leaving Philadelphia, Dallas and Washington in the wild-card picture. There are seven playoff-caliber teams fighting for a maximum of five playoff spots in the North and West (everybody but Arizona).

That said, I get the sense that a rejuvenated Kyler Murray will team up with Justin Jefferson, excel behind a superb offensive line, and—buoyed by a talented and experienced defense—push Minnesota back to the playoffs.

This really is a strong all-around team with a high ceiling when the quarterback isn't getting in the way. Kevin O'Connell might be the guy to bring out the best in Murray.

The 49ers can't ever seem to stay healthy. The Rams are overrated and facing ridiculous expectations and pressure in a jacked division. Within said division, the Seahawks could be in for a Super Bowl hangover after losing some key cogs to the vultures.

Within Minnesota's division, Green Bay is facing a tall task without Micah Parsons for an extended stretch. Detroit is coming off a disappointing campaign. The Bears were only a middle-of-the-pack team in terms of DVOA (Defense-adjusted Value Over Average) despite winning the North last year.

Few are giving a lot of love to a Vikings squad that went 14-3 two seasons ago. Watch for them to take advantage of that and slip into a wild-card spot while everybody above rips each other to shreds.”

Look, I'm not sure how much banking on a San Francisco team being injured is wise. The team won 12 games with a MASH unit. What should be the focus is O'Connell, the weapons, and the potential ceiling with Murray as the starter.

Brian Flores makes every game uncomfortable for opposing offenses and the duo of Flores and O'Connell is top tier. The Vikings need consistency and stability. Winning nine games last season was nothing short of a miracle. Any lift in QB play is a wild card and could lead the Vikings into the playoffs again.

I wouldn't look around at the other NFC competitors and would only focus on what the Vikings can control and the potential.
