I'm just spitballing here, like the Vikings are

The 2026 offseason continues for the Minnesota Vikings, and despite selecting nine players in the 2026 NFL Draft, the organization still hasn't hired a permanent general manager. Instead, executive VP Rob Brzezinski has doubled as the interim GM. Now, a team that needed a very good draft and is entering a season that needs to deliver results decided it was best to run the offseason and the draft without a true GM.

Look, my feelings aside, the Vikings need to get someone in a position to make decisions for the team and roster. I'll still never understand this plan, and I suppose it is not for me to understand. However, I do have a prediction about who this new general manager could be if the Vikings don't slap the title on Brzezinski.

There is no doubt this draft was a group effort. For the record, even with a general manager, each draft is a group effort for any team. The only decision that makes sense is the Vikings promoting someone from that war room to GM. Who is that person? That I have no idea, but why wouldn't you promote someone from the war room who was part of the process and understands what the team was looking to accomplish with their picks?

You know how hard it is to pitch this draft class to an external candidate. Let's say this candidate is like the public and people looking from the outside who aren't in love with the direction of the draft? An external candidate will have to fix a situation he had nothing to do with, and with this being a results-driven business, might not even get the grace to keep the Vikings competitive.

This is what makes searching for a GM so complicated. Nine players have been selected for a team that is in win-now mode. A new candidate will have to accept the picks and move forward while taking the heat as if he had something to do with the draft.

The only answer is to promote someone from the group who had a big say on the picks and if there is heat then he is prepared to answer questions because he was part of the process. Putting an external candidate under that type of heat is just another misstep.

This whole situation is a mess, but at least do one thing that makes sense as you search for a permanent answer.
