It's never to early to look at the 2027 NFL Draft.

The biggest question surrounding the Minnesota Vikings heading into 2026 is their quarterback situation. It’s a two-man battle, with third-year signal caller JJ McCarthy and former first overall pick Kyler Murray vying for the starting role. There’s a real possibility that the long-term answer is among them, but it’s never too early to begin looking at potential replacements in the 2027 NFL Draft.

It’s important to note that I didn’t include the consensus top overall picks. The Vikings' roster is far too impressive to reach the number one overall pick. So, these prospects are still likely first-round picks, but could be available in the mid-teens.

Obviously, it’s far too early to project anything. But, that shouldn’t stop us from looking ahead. Having said that, here are four potential options for the Vikings if they target a quarterback in the 2027 NFL Draft.

CJ Carr- Notre Dame

CJ Carr’s still developing his arm strength, but his elite processing and pre-snap diagnosis make him an enticing option. The redshirt sophomore threw for 2,741 yards in his lone starting season at Notre Dame and nearly led the team to the College Football Playoff. Carr will be a top option for the Vikings if he decides to declare next offseason.

Drew Mestemaker- Oklahoma State

Despite never starting a game of varsity football in high school, Drew Mestemaker burst onto the national scene at North Texas in 2025 with a league-leading 4,381 yards and 34 touchdowns. His dynamic arm and elite pocket mobility make him an elite prospect if he makes the jump to the Big 12. Don’t be surprised if Mestemaker impresses next season and makes himself a first-class option next April.

Dante Moore- Oregon

Dante Moore was viewed as the consensus second overall pick last year before returning to school in mid-January. He had a fabulous 2025 campaign, with 3,550 yards and 30 touchdowns, but struggled against elite competition (both matchups against Indiana). Moore has the opportunity to thrive next season and establish himself as a top quarterback, possibly being a target for the Vikings.

Sam Leavitt- LSU

Sam Leavitt desperately needs to improve his accuracy, but the flashes of brilliance are evident. He’s a crafty improviser and has a rocket arm that gives him the potential to become a premier quarterback in the NFL. His improvement in 2026 is vital to his stock, but Leavitt could wind up being the Vikings’ target come April.
