The Vikings could bring in a former teammate of Kyler Murray

The draft is less than a month away, and the Minnesota Vikings have added quarterbacks to compete with J.J. McCarthy. The smart money would be on Kyler Murray to start for Minnesota in Week 1. For all intents and purposes, this is an audition for Murray to hit free agency next year or be the franchise quarterback for the Vikings.

While the draft will be the primary way to fill out the roster, what if Minnesota entertained the idea of a veteran and former teammate of Murray?

Future Hall of Famer DeAndre Hopkins recently spoke with TMZ about Murray's signing with Minnesota.

"Kyler, that's my bro, man. Kyler's like family," Hopkins said. "I talked to Kyler throughout the year last year. I talked to Kyler after his situation in Arizona. Kyler's like family, man. I would always embrace that journey with him. He's on a one-year deal, if I'm not mistaken. Whatever I can do for someone like that -- if Kyler needed me, if the Vikings need me, they know I'll be there.

"Justin Jefferson, the Vikings got one of the best receivers in the game."

Hopkins doubled down on being a mentor for the Vikings receivers as well.

"I just want to be around good people, man, that love the game," Hopkins said. "Just be able to give some knowledge, if I can, to some young players. I've played this game 13 seasons, so I think it's a blessing to be able to see other guys grow and help their development."

During Hopkins's time with Murray, the duo put together some impressive numbers in 2020 as Hopkins put up 115 catches, 1407 yards, and six touchdowns. The next season, Hopkins hauled in eight touchdowns, but the production slid to 42 catches and 572 yards.

Given the chance of Minnesota drafting another young receiver, Hopkins could fulfill his mentor role while giving Murray a familiar and reliable target. A deal for Hopkins would be very cheap at this point in his career and with the role he is outlining.

Yes, he isn't the All-Pro he used to be anymore, but this could be a solid pairing for both sides and a total win-win. The Vikings offense will be much more potent through the air, and Hopkins won't demand many targets. A trio of Jefferson, Addison, and Hopkins should be enough firepower. Situationally, Hopkins would be the ideal red zone threat.

I'd kick the tires on Hopkins.
