The pass rusher made an immediate impact in Week 1, showing signs of the breakout season Minnesota has been waiting for.
Minnesota Vikings edge rusher Dallas Turner entered his the 2026 NFL season with plenty of expectations surrounding him, and he wasted little time showing why.
The 23-year-old was one of the most disruptive defensive players league-wide during Week 1, recording 10 quarterback pressures, according to Next Gen Stats. That tied him with Detroit Lions edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson for the most pressures in the league during the opening week.
Turner recorded 15 total quarterback pressures throughout his entire rookie campaign. He nearly matched that number in his first game of Year 3.
It was the type of performance the Vikings were hoping to see from their young pass rusher and former first-round pick of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Turner finished the game with a sack, two defensive stops and a forced fumble, consistently creating problems for the Green Bay Packers offensive line. According to Pro Football Focus, he earned a 90.4 pass-rush grade and an 89.5 overall defensive grade.
He was not simply getting pressure but consistently winning his opportunities.
For Minnesota, that could be one of the most important developments to come out of Week 1's comeback victory.
The Vikings have invested heavily in their defense, and Turner is one of the young stars they are counting on to become a major contributor. His athleticism was evident during his first two seasons, but translating that athletic ability into consistent production was always going to be the next challenge.
If the season opener is any indication, Turner may be ready to take that next step in 2026.
His 10 pressures also put him in impressive company. Hutchinson matched Turner’s total, while Trey Hendrickson and Blake Cashman each recorded eight. Tavius Robinson and Jalyx Hunt followed with seven apiece.
The Vikings don't necessarily need Turner to produce 10 pressures every week, but they do need him to become a consistent source of pressure off the edge. If he can maintain anything close to the level of disruption he showed in Week 1, Minnesota’s defensive front could become much more difficult for opposing offenses to handle.
There is a long way to go, and one dominant performance does not guarantee that Turner will maintain this pace. However, the early returns are exactly what Minnesota wanted to see.
For Brian Flores and a Vikings defense that is hoping to take another step forward, seeing their young pass rusher announce himself this way could be a significant development.
