Hockenson dominated Miami, hauling in all 13 targets for 119 yards in a standout performance for Minnesota.
The Minnesota Vikings needed someone to step up offensively against the Miami Dolphins, and T.J. Hockenson delivered one of the best performances of his Vikings tenure.
Hockenson hauled in all 13 of his targets for 119 yards in Minnesota’s 15-10 victory over Miami on Sunday, helping lead the Vikings to a 4-0 record.
With the Vikings struggling to consistently move the ball, Hockenson repeatedly gave the offense a dependable option in the passing game.
It was the type of performance Minnesota needed when opportunities have been hard to come by on the offensive side of the football. Whether the Vikings needed to move the chains or find a manageable play, Hockenson consistently made himself available.
According to Pro Football Focus, Hockenson finished the game with a 91.1 overall offensive grade and a 91.3 receiving grade, both season-highs that matched the impact he had throughout the game.
For an offense that finished with just 15 points and failed to find the endzone, Hockenson’s showing was especially important, while also showing the value Hockenson can provide beyond simply being a red-zone threat.
For Hockenson, this performance could be more than just one big game. After working his way back into the flow of Minnesota’s offense, showing this kind of impact could give the Vikings something to build on moving forward.
There were rumbles of Hockenson potentially losing a step that followed him throughout the offseason, but this could be the exact boost of confidence he needed to return to form.
His recent performance gives him and Murray a foundation to build upon. If Minnesota can continue getting the tight end involved at this level, it could add another consistent dimension to an offense that will need to find ways to become more productive as the season progresses.
Hockenson has now shown what the connection with Murray can look like when the Vikings lean on it. Sunday’s performance could be the start of a much bigger role for him, rather than simply an impressive individual outing.
That would be a major development for Minnesota. If Hockenson can carry this momentum into the coming weeks, the Vikings could have another reliable centerpiece for their passing attack.
To be 4-0 after the offensive production we have seen from Minnesota is a luxury, and there is no telling how much longer the defensive can remaining carrying them through these games. The offense needs to find some consistency from their veterans, and getting Hockenson more involved moving forward could be beneficial in that regard.
