Sunday's shutout loss to the Seattle Seahawks was tough to watch for anyone, more so for Minnesota Vikings fans. The questions about leadership and direction for the team continue to mount with just five weeks of football left for Minnesota. Max Brosmer was put in a very tough situation, but threw four interceptions, including a pick-six. The defense was hung out to dry. The Vikings are fully entrenched in draft prospects and the upcoming offseason.
Here are the highest and lowest graded players on offense and defense, according to Pro Football Focus.
Offense: TE T.J. Hockenson 73.0 & QB Max Brosmer 22.0
Technically, Michael Jurgens and Zavier Scott were graded higher than Hockenson, but both played 17 and ten snaps, so the nod goes to T.J. after his 41 snaps. With a grade of 73.0 on offense and a 76.5 grade on pass plays, Hockenson led the team in both categories. Although Hockenson was dinged for his pass-blocking with a 26.0, the tight end posted a respectable 54.6 as a run blocker. As the leading receiver on Sunday with six catches on six targets for 59 yards, this seems like a simple answer.
Speaking of simple answers, Brosmer being the lowest-graded offensive player isn't a shock at all. 19/30, 126 yards, 4.2 YPA, four interceptions, and a passing grade of 22.8. His NFL passer rating was 32.8. Yikes.
Defense: DL Jalen Redmond 78.5 & CB Byron Murphy Jr 43.5
Redmond finished with two tackles and defensive stops on 47 snaps and a run defense grade of 81.6. The run defense grade was compiled on 26 run defense snaps, and his defensive stop percentage was 8.3. In my opinion, LB Eric Wilson had a better day with nine tackles and seven defensive stops, which is good for a 19.4 defensive stop percentage. Wilson finished with a team-high 85.5 run defense grade.
Again, technically, EDGE Jonathan Greenard was the lowest-graded defender at 30.3, but he only played 15 snaps. On 67 overall snaps, Byron Murphy ended with a defensive grade of 43.5. Across the board, it was a tough day for Murphy with a 47.2 run defense grade, 48.7 tackling grade, and 44.2 coverage grade. The coverage grade is a bit odd, considering Murphy allowed one catch on two targets for two yards. When targeted, Murphy registered a 56.3 passer rating. That doesn't scream bad day in coverage to me. Murphy registered four tackles and a defensive stop as well.
