The Ruby Buckle West saw some incredible runs over the week-long event. In South Jordan, Utah, many of the best aged-event horses in the country sought a piece of the $1,1550,000 minimum guaranteed payout.
The Futurity Average win went to DaCota Monk and Seis Martinis. Sired by Tres Seis and out of the incredible mare Morning Traffic by Frenchmans Guy, “Marti Jane” seems to be finding her stride in the futurity season, quickly racking up major earnings in the month of June. The duo also earned the 1D Open Average title.
After a reserve championship at the Run at the Rose Futurity and fourth-place finish at the Colorado Classic, Monk took the mare to a jackpot held the weekend prior to the Ruby Buckle. Earning the win there gave them the confidence going into the big week, where they ran the second fastest time of the event.
Winning Round 1 with a 15.800, they finished fifth in Round 2 at 16.043 seconds. With earnings of $33,500 in the futurity and $23,500 in the Open, Monk and Marti Jane boosted the mare’s lifetime earnings to $116,000.
The Round 2 win went to Hes Got The Sting and Taylor Langdon, with a 15.905. Langdon also placed third in the Average with KissMyButtGoodbye.
The Futurity Reserve Championship was claimed by Ashley Schafer and The Coffee Guy. Continuing their outstanding year, the duo finished third in Round 1 and fourth in Round 2. Schafer and Wayde finished sixth in the Average. Both horses are sired by The Goodbye Lane.
In the derby, Jamie Montano and Repete The Beat set the event on fire, running a 15.870 to win Round 1 by over a tenth of a second. Bred and raised by Jamie’s mom, Kathy Montano, “Echo” is by Repete Offender and out of Lanes Melody, by Lanes Leinster.
The duo earned nearly $30,000 on the weekend, between derby and open earnings.
The Round 2 win in the 1D went to McKinlee Kellett and Evening Rush Hour with a 16.027. Sired by PC Redwood Manny, the gelding is out of Evening Traffic by Dash Thru Traffic. Evening Traffic is the dam of Morning Traffic, futurity winner Seis Martini’s dam.
In Round 2 of the Open 1D, Ruby Buckle stallion Mr Soul ran the fastest time of the event with an incredible 15.778. Close behind him, finishing fourth in the round was his son, Soul Fury with a 16.026. Both horses were ridden by Caitlyn White.
