Shane Plummer and the SDP Buffalo Ranch family recently said goodbye to the amazing TR Dual Rey who passed at age of 27.
On June 1, 2026, TR Dual Rey passed surrounded by those who loved him and was impacted most by the amazing stallion. He was 27 years old and reportedly suffered a heart attack shortly after his morning collection. TR Dual Rey stood at SDP Buffalo Ranch in Fort Worth Texas, where he spent his final days in the best of care. He was loved deeply until his last breath.
Owner Shane Plummer wrote, "It is no exaggeration to say that TR Dual Rey changed my life and the life of my family. As my team huddled close around me, TR laying peacefully on the ground, I thanked him out loud. He laid the foundation that made everything possible. He went quickly, and it was a tender mercy to have been there with him for his last breaths."
A Million Dollar Purchase
TR was sired by the amazing Dual Rey who is known as one of the greatest cutting stallions of his time. His offspring is known still today as some of the greatest performance horses in the Western Industry. This is what stood out about TR to the Plummer family.
TR started his training with Tim Rollins (hence the name), and was owned by Rollins and Jim Holmes. The Plummer family knew he was something special when they laid eyes on him. So special in fact that as a 4 year old, they purchased him for a whopping million dollars.
A million dollar horse is not totally unheard of in todays industry, however in 2003, that kind of money was so uncommon for an equine athlete, regardless of their talent and potential. However, those 6 zero's turned out to be a pretty amazing investment for the family.
A Career Worth Remembering
TR Dual Rey will be remembered for a lot of things including wins, memories, personality and his offspring. His career alone is something worth noting. Lloyd Plummer and TR were the high money earners the same year they purchased him. He was competing against and above the best of the best under the ownership of SDP Buffalo Ranch.
At the end of his career, TR was a 7x Open Limited Age Event Champion or Reserve Champion. His lifetime earnings exceeded $350,000.
Generational Success
The Plummer family came from a race horse background. In that industry, they don't use horses for performance and breeding at the same time. This was the philosophy used with TR too. After they retired him from the arena, now TR had a big job. In 2008, Shane and his wife Jane bought the program from his parents and TR Dual Rey and everything that was to come came along with that purchase.
His sire record is impressive. The day of his passing, TR had 996 AQHA foals and 414 of them being money earners. The total combined earnings are $5,641,220. He will forever be known as a legendary $5.5 million sire and still consistently ranks among the top leading sires for cutting, reining, and reined cow horse events. In the cutting world alone, his offspring has earned over $4.5 million.
The Future of TR Dual Rey
Although losing TR Dual Rey is a big blow for the industry, and extremely heart breaking, his legacy will continue on. Thanks to the incredible technology surrounding the breeding industry, there will be more foals born in years to come.
TR Dual Rey was laid to rest right at home. He will forever be a huge part of SDP Buffalo Ranch and the entire industry.

The one truly great one who changed my life and gave me opportunities I would of never had without him. I will miss him deeply. I will do everything in my power to preserve what he gave me personally, what he gave my family, and what he can still give through his future progeny. His legacy will be carried forward by whomever believes in him enough to raise the next great foal. All horses go to heaven. He's already enjoying the best paddock in the kingdom."
